I might be missing the point here, but I suspect that it might just be that you haven't encountered yet a useful element of Tracktion.
The Edit view allows parts of the screen layout to be hidden away to allow more space for whatever you need to concentrate on.
There are several icons on the page that make screen areas appear or disappear. I've added an image to show where they are. An icon will turn orange when the layout element is showing, and white when it is not.
1. In the upper left corner, just under the Projects tab, there is an icon for the browser. This will bring up your presets list.
2. In the upper right corner, there are five icons grouped together, allowing you to see or hide
a) the Tempo track
b) the Marker track
c) the track inputs
d) the plug-ins part at the end of the tracks
e) the three lower screen sections - buttons, properties, and controls.

Thank for your reply Jabe! I didn't find the presets in the browser area for the plugins, but your post got me thinking that they might be in the properties window...which they are
