I guess its a first world problem, but I am spoilt with installers and update mangers from NI, Arturia etc. but I wonder if other people would like UHE to make an install/update manager as the portfolio of products is really quite extensive now. (I know as I have most of them ;-))

What do you think- a worthwhile endeavour or a waste of valuable time that could go towards Zebra 3 (....wait, I may have answered my own question :dog: ) .....assuming it didn't delay anything else....worthwhile?
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Post

I don't think they really need to have one...

It's one of the things we might begin once the preset browser is 100% final.

(we might need one because we have more plug-ins coming out once the new website is ready as well)

But, with NI and Arturia, isn't it also for C/R purposes? Does u-he really need this? Hmm.. It's not that much of a hassle to download (and backup) separate installers imho :) Update check could also be implement within the plugin itself.
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

Post

It isn't a necessity, but it might be nice to have the option to install/update whatever you want from one tool, then have it log onto the license server and download/apply all serial numbers.

I like the way Plugin Alliance did it. Along with separate download links on their site, they have a 2.8 Mb Installation Manager that works without installation. It lists all their products (with tiny screenshots and short description for each plugin), and can download and install selected plugins in one go, in silent mode.

On the other hand, there are NI and Waves with their monstrous installers. Every time I use them, I feel like I'm asking for permission to use their plugins :) One of the reasons I don't buy their stuff anymore.

Post

I prefer .zip files with manual placement of files 9but I must be minority). Hate installers with things I don't need. Hate NI with their temp files all over the place!

Post

NI clears all its temp files after install. :)

If you're talking about what's left in ProgramData - that's normal for any InstallShield installer.

I'm fine with this idea as long as it does not mess with my presets...

- so I can still choose to install preset folders on drive D instead of drive C.

- choose exactly where on drive D ;)

- and then just copy my saved preset folders into them with their (alphabetical) folder structure intact.

- have u-he plugins see my preset folder structure just as I have arranged them.

Also with the new browser you need a way to save your saved searches...if you know what I mean...and copy them over with a new install...but I imagine u-he has figured out how this will work. :tu:

When monsters grow into giants the only way to make them smaller is to stop feeding them, I guess. :hihi:

Cool.

Yeh, there are about a dozen main VSTs now, that’s quite a lot (and there isn’t realy a ‘product’ page that just lists them) a one click ‘download installer’ can be quite the sales tool if all products can be installed/demoed - not everyone is on KVR :o

It seems logical, but I think everybody can live without more complex installers.
The fact that other developers, for example Rob Papen or Soniccharge create installers that contain all of their products doesn't mean U-he should create something similar.

As an option, really, nothing more. And it would merely be a download manager, not 2.3GB installer for 100MB of data you need.

your habit of being helpful and reasonable really takes the fun out of the internet.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer
