Thankfully our stuff is easily skinable. My gut feeling tells me there'll be alternative skins for all needs and desires within a few days.

Love how you can get that T-8 lushness Urs. Never remember being able to get that on my old Rev3.

That switch also makes the sound more consistent, as if it also interfered with the phase. One can hear the difference well when using the init patch and switching reallocation on and off while repeatedly pressing the same key. It's similar to switching osc retrigger on and off on other synths.

I think a light skin would be nice, basically like the Lyrebird effect :)

The red displays will remain a problem, though. Red on black is known to be a problem for the human eye.

Oh that would be very cool.

As a follow-up on Linux use, here with Linux Mint 18 and Bitwig 2.2.2 there are no graphic wise shortcomings that I noticed so far. The synth can be resized from 70% to the max I tried, 140% w/o problems. The screenshot was saved with 50% jpg quality to save space.

Currently a session has 7 Repro-5 instances and 2 Repro-1 instances, all playing at the same time, plus two audio clip tracks, and it runs pretty well. i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz with 16GB RAM.

It sounds very good - Windows 7 64bit, Cubase 9.

A few questions

1. It seems that glide is only on unison? No poly glide?
2. The matrix - 2 slots only?

I'm just checking - being a hardware type I'm used to accepting differences in synths

A general question - I installed the VST3 version only because I thought go for the one that Cubase is likely to like - but then read MPE is on VST2 only.

So 2 questions - is it ok to install both versions or does that confuse Cubase and I should only install the VST2?

Is MPE likely to be available for a future version of the VST3?

The way VST3 handles MIDI it makes it pretty tough to implement MPE for developers, IIRC. So probably not gonna happen, or isn't a huge priority. Keep on using VST2.

Post

Regarding effects, I see a reverb, EQ, delay, distortion, two more whatever they are. But no chorus?

ok thanks Dragon - was I correct in my other two assumptions?

No poly glide! - Poly glide would lead to distinct patches and sound demos that are utterly impossible to do with a Prophet-5. Hence, no poly glide (for now).
2. The matrix - 2 slots only?
Yes. Same as above really, just trying to preserve the basic vibe of the olden boxes without pimping it too much. Happy to discuss extensions once the initial dust has settled, maybe in a year or two.

It seems to me that our MPE support interferes with VST3 Note Expressions. I don't know. I'm bummed as everyone that this doesn't seem to work out as planned. But I'm happy that VST3 works otherwise, apart from the MIDI Learn issue.

Post

BTW, if someone can quickly say something about this. Using Linux, what advantages does the VST3 brings, or, why should I use the VST3 version instead ?

Cheers.

Here is a weird bug: The Repro-1 manual opens correctly in Mac Preview v9 (OS 10.12) but the Repro-5 manual shows just the first few pages, and the rest of the pages are blank, and then freezes Preview when you try to quit. Repro-5 manual opens correctly in Adobe Reader. It's repeatable. And a little annoying, because Preview is my default reader. Time to switch to Adobe?

I really love the sound of the Repro 5, but the CPU usage is really high on my old IBM T410 w/i5-520M and 8GB of RAM. It is usable if I keep the number of voices down (but still really high). Most of the 8 voice patches crush the CPU even in CPU saver mode.

I hope that you will optimize the code and also provide various quality options a la Diva (draft, fast, great, divine) for those of us with less powerful systems. I have no problem running Diva, Bazille, Zebra, Hive Repro One and Ace on this system. Hosts tested are FL Studio, Ableton and Reason.

Lyrebird can be setup to act as a chorus or a delay. Use the Chorus/Short setting and add some modulation. The downside to this is that you lose the delay. I mentioned it somewhere yesterday but I'd like a mode that acts as a chorus and a delay (my System 8 has a Chorus+Delay mode for example).
