I thought I remember Urs saying at one point that cpu usage of Repro-5 would be around that of Diva, maybe slightly less. I think I'm seeing almost double the cpu of Diva (I usually use it on great mode). Is that what everyone else is seeing?

You shouldn't take every statement at face value. Things change through time. If this sound quality needs those CPU cycles, so be it.
Also, nobody can "promise" what the CPU usage is gonna be. Again, things change

Woah, you packed a lot of weird in that post.
Don't be an evil and defensive dragon! Just Evil is enough for a dragon. Just seeing if my cpu usage is normal!
Ok, but then how do you know which ones to take seriously or ignore. I have no reason not to take what Urs says about his own plugins at face value.EvilDragon wrote:You shouldn't take every statement at face value.
I agree! Although I highly doubt it's suddenly changed drastically since he said that, I think a week or two ago?EvilDragon wrote:Things change through time. If this sound quality needs those CPU cycles, so be it.
Kind of irrelevant as I didn't claim Urs promised anything. I am asking in case I am missing something, maybe a lower quality setting in repro, or maybe he meant Diva divine mode is roughly the same as repro-5 normal mode. I don't know, haven't followed that closely.EvilDragon wrote:Also, nobody can "promise" what the CPU usage is gonna be. Again, things change

The problem is that it's pretty hard to project generic statements from one or two isolated environments here at u-he HQ onto all the other potential environments all over the globe.
On Urs' Mac with a specific Xeon CPU in a specific host with Multicore mode enabled, it may use less CPU than Diva when checking values in the (more reliable) system task viewer. On your (speculated) PC with a different i5 or AMD CPU in a different host software without Multicore mode enabled, it may use more CPU than Diva when inspecting values in the (less reliable) CPU meter built into your host.

I'll try to check this out today, thanks for reporting it.jimmydeer wrote:when I offline bounce in live 10 beta, at 2secs there will be a buffer-style skip, regardless of MC/HQ and live buffer settings. I have a fast enough machine (4.3ghz imac quad i7 32gb ram), and there's no popping during live playback/recording.
if I put an empty bar before, it doesn't skip.

This thing is insanely good. It is so much fun trying to recreate the original Prophet sounds on some of my favorite records and it's spot on. There are a couple of sounds that I never got right with other synths (ranging from a Jupiter-6 up to the Nord Modular I used to have). With Repro-5 I can dial in those sounds in less than 5 minutes.
As somebody already brought up the inevitable "in the air tonight": I'm pretty sure this is among the original factory presets. Phil Collins was no Keyboarder nor was he a sound-designer. He once told in an interview that he just took that Sound from a preset of his P5. It certainly has more movement going on than what a dry P5 is capable of, so I assume they used a Chorus and a healthy dose of AMS reverb on that sound.
It would be great fun to go through the original factory patches once that conversion tool is ready at u-he.

I've just played around with the Repro 5 for an hour or so and I must say it had me lost in it's sound.
I have the very nice Prophet V to compare but this easily wins.
It really does have that wonderful character that I hear in videos and sound clips of the original synth and my desire to buy hardware has finally been extinguished
I just need to get a decent controller which should be able to work most of the parameters, being a relatively straight forward synthesizer.
Just to note from my experience:
Using Logix Pro X
macOS Sierra
Version 10.12.6
iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)
Processor 32 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
3-4 instances of Repro 5 hit the CPU ceiling (HQ mode)

I already own u-he's Zebra2 and ACE. I am not expecially interested in exact emulation of old synths. Does Repro offer something additional I cannot get from the other two? I tried the demo and it doesn't seem so to me.

For me once you start playing with the cutoff and resonance... and... well most of the other parameters it becomes easy to create very moody and atmospheric sounds. I started to hear sounds that I know from some of my favourite tracks - I've been listening to Tangerine Dream recently and as I played Repro 5, I chanced upon some similar type sounds they used.fuxoft wrote:I already own u-he's Zebra2 and ACE. I find there seems to be a little extra movement and interest (imperfections?) in the overall sound with these well made classic synth emulations that is ear pleasing...
but that's also because I like the Prophet 5 sound to begin with:)

I like this! Saved.Greggers wrote:I think you did very well, Walter! It's less brassy, more reserved, subtle, definitely closer to the studio recording. What do you think about this Greggers?
I found LFO rate a bit fast. Comparing to studio record, I noticed there's higher Osc A freq at slower LFO going on on the record.
Just as an idea of what I mean. Oh, and forgive demo noises, they were inevitably recorded along the whole thing.

I'll attach the modified patch.
You think you can have a go at "Run like hull" patch, mod it?
To me, Run Like hull patch sounded very good, although uses a lot of CPU. What do you think is missing from it?

I think I'm sure that I said something like it, based on comparing Repro-1 performance to Diva. I'm a bit worried about the current multi core overhead, which I hope we can fix this week or next.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I thought I remember Urs saying at one point that cpu usage of Repro-5 would be around that of Diva, maybe slightly less. It depends on how much of a fan you are of the old analog/subtractive sound. It doesn't have any of the modern options. You are limited to 70's synth technology when it comes to the sound. But the effects modernize it a lot.fuxoft wrote:I already own u-he's Zebra2 and ACE. ... Does Repro offer something additional I cannot get from the other two?
I use many plugins that are the similar two VCO, subtractive, ... typical non-modular layout and I keep going back and fourth and end up using them all.
Each ends up having it's own individual character, limitations, features, ... that you really begin to notice when you get into tweaking the sounds.
It does have it's own sound. Much of that is more the effects stage than anything else, but the synth engine and the various tweaks(which I am only now discovering) do stand out when compared to the others even without the effects.
I can see using Repro alongside Ace, Zebra and others because each has it's own sound. Kind of like combining a Fender Strat with a Gibson Les Paul. You don't have to have that kind of contrast, but it is nice.
