If you are using a recent mac, you can just connect the iPad and it will show up as a MIDI port and Audio port

Daags there are way too many to list, but in the last couple of weeks the game has been thrown on its head by IOS 11 with AU MIDI plugins, the first suite of those is out by Brambos called Odessa, the Euclidean drum sequencer in that is a work of pure art.

If you're looking at Stochas also see Midi Madness, but the best so far in that genre-ative is Wotja. However there is room for improvement. Go Epoch!

thanks - Wotja is Mac only (although iOS which I am considering) and Midi Madness is a bit expensive - if it were on a 50% sale I would give it a serious thought.

At the moment I can write software to do anything I want in midi in a static sense (ie output a file) but I cant write interactive and realtime software which is what I was hoping !Epoch would deliver. This Black Friday is my last time spending significant money for quite a while.

I can pretty much do what they offer with Bitwig and some Midi plugins + my Reaktor Midi Mangler already I think.

I like the approach of https://tonecarver.wordpress.com/nova3- ... encer-vst/ and https://www.kontakthub.com/product/Cracklefield/ in that realm a lot more. Also Lemur "ABREAKPOINT 2" is great, more organic and evolving.

What I'm looking for in addition to those is different, way less static and not fixed step oriented, like working with fractal noises and structural patterns that get varied, so it's more a "code" approach and playing with algorithms to see what happens. More "birds in the woods" than "EDM".
Sometimes I use Processing for this, since it's rather simple to send Midi with it through Loop Midi to Bitwig.

Reaktor would be great if it would deal with Midi in a more clever way, so that I would not have to track notes and event order all by hand - my Midi Mangler took me a long time to get working reliably. I don't want to do the micromanagement, that's something the tool should handle. Falcon also does this very well with it's internal Lua implementation, but doesn't output the results to the DAW.

!Epoch looks like the first tool to really go all the way with this stuff, although I won't know until I can test myself how it "feels".

I am similarly placed Thomas - although more limited in scripting. Cracklefield is quite good, Tonecarver also, butnone replace actually having an environment one can design in oneself. Thanks for the Reaktor and lua script. I will check out the Lua and see if I might be able to learn lua. Would be useful if not to much work

thanks Thomas - your lua script is beautifully commented - will be a great learning tool for me. First up is to try and add in a different randomisation (beta function) that is better for music in my view and is available in sci.lua . Also there is an approximation that uses the uniform distribution which comes with Falcon I guess
