Drum Instrument for Step Clip?

I'm new with Tracktion and must say that I love the concept very much. However there are some issues I do'nt understand. Step Clips are nice and it is not hard to understand the basics but manual says that one must insert a Drum Instrument in order to get some actual audio from Step Clip. Can't find any Drum Instrument in Waveform?! Must I buy a third party midi instrument for that purpose? Help, somebody!

[1] Simplest - you can download a free VST drumkit like MTPowerDrums (http://www.powerdrumkit.com/ (http://www.powerdrumkit.com/)) Follow the instructions to import VST plugins and select the VST when adding the plugin to the track.[2] You can use the built-in Sampler (synth) plugin but you will need to load drum kit sounds on to the appropriate keys.
- Download drum sounds e.g. http://www.bandshed.net/avldrumkits/ (http://www.bandshed.net/avldrumkits/) (sfz contain the wav files you'll need)
- Add the Tracktion Sampler (synth) plugin to your track
- Following the percussion midi mappings (http://computermusicresource.com/GM.Per ... eyMap.html (http://computermusicresource.com/GM.Percussion.KeyMap.html)) you can add each wav file you need to a note ...
-- Click the add button in the Control Panel (bottom-left)
-- Select the wav file you want
-- move the green arrow to the note you want to map the sample to
-- pull the range (white) arrows to the same note - the sample will play on one note only
-- repeat for each drum sound you need
- save your mappings!
[3] Use a free VST Sound Font plugin e.g. https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/ (https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/)
- Download drum sounds e.g. http://www.bandshed.net/avldrumkits/ (http://www.bandshed.net/avldrumkits/) (sfz)
- Add the VST Sound Font plugin to your track and open the desired sound font
Cheers,
P

This is a bit niche, but on the off-chance you're in the market for a new audio interface, if you buy a focusrite one before January, you get a copy of XLN Addictive Drums 2 as a freebie ... which is nice

The MT-PowerDrumKit seems to work well in step clips. Not bad for a free, dedicated to the task plugin!

I hate to bring this up, but when I tried to use Collective for drums in step clips, I was immediately dealing with the Collective silence issue... again.TSC wrote:No need to download any third party content - Collective is included with Waveform and it has a few drum kits to choose from
Using Collective v1.1.0 with Waveform 8.2.6.

Hello, everyone. MTPowerDrumKit would be excellent if it worked properly. I can't drag and drop unfortunately because it doesn't copy properly; It doesn't matter how many bars there are in each groove, it seems like it always defaults to 1 bar. How do I change this?

But the drum instrument has nothing to do with the bars. It just plays what's in your clip, regardless of length.

Sorry, but this:
is a bad joke I cant laugh about: was one of the reasons I upgraded to 8 because I thought I will have a self content daw WITH sample AND synth. Now I have a daw and a sampler and a synth I can ONLY use OUTSIDE the daw....No need to download any third party content - Collective is included with Waveform and it has a few drum kits to choose from

But why can I set in the plugin how many bars could my grooves have in the composition then? Do I just drag the grooves and duplicate them then?Stuttaton wrote:But the drum instrument has nothing to do with the bars. It just plays what's in your clip, regardless of length.

take a look at this tutorial video about stepclips, if your question is about stepclips.
this is a tracktion 6 video, but the basics all apply to waveform too. there are some additional features in waveform i guess.

basic answer:
the steclipgrid gets looped when you make the clip longer.
you can edit how many steps the grid includes and what length/measure they are (1/16, 1/8, 1/4, ...).
if you want a variation of the groove, copy the stepclip and change it to your liking.

Of course. I've been learning Tracktion for a while and didn't know about step clips.
Dragging and dropping still doesn't work properly, so I presume I must program the beat myself, right?

Dragging works fine for me. Some clips are longer than others, but yeah I can drag them over just fine.
