These days obviously Repro-5 gets a lot of the (well deserved) attention, but I just stumbled over an old patch I had made for good old Zebra and I remembered why I love Zebra so much. Analogue synths are very nice, but there are some things to be said for digital! Here is a short chord sequence to show of the patch. I can't believe how massive a single instance of Zebra can sound.

Love both looks.
The in-your-face one is sharp looking and I would risk eye fatigue to use it
The muted colors look great too. I hope you leave the gradient! It's a nice touch.

I fixed that for ya!HcDoom wrote:I like both of those skins and gradient looks amazing. So, to each his own...I believe to satisfy all people, multiple choices have to be available, at least 30 different skins.

Here's my proposal for a concept that I think scales well even for a complex beast that Zebra is:Urs wrote:What speaks against Massive style visualization is that it necessarily needs to exclude the ModMatrix. I wouldn't knowhow to visualize a knob that has a dozen sources attached to it. But if we use it as a means to loose dedicated modulation knobs, it might actually be a good idea to try this out. Unless it makes pointing the mouse over a mod depth control kind of strenuous.
I have thought about Serum style visual feedback ever since MotU brought out the MX-4, maybe even before that. Plug-In formats have not been designed in favour of this. A plug-in needs a meter-style parameter for each knob-style parameter that can receive modulation. Zebra2 currently has about a thousand of these. That's like a few tenfolds more than what the MX-4 or Serum require.
I think over the years I simply built up a strong reluctance against these things.
The visualization of modulation next to each parameter can in my opinion be limited to either a total modulation range representing the sum of all modulations targeting this parameter, or even just a simple two-state "modulation active/inactive" indicator. Cramping more information into the limited space I think is rather distracting over-all. If a user likes to get a detailed view of the individual modulations, he should visit the mod matrix.
For this to work well, the mod matrix view receives a "filter" bar which allows you to limit the visible modulations wrt. either mod source or destination. Each parameter control should have a quick way (e.g. double-clicking mod indicator or text label) to switch to the mod matrix tab only showing the entries targeting that parameter (using mod target filter).
This way, we can probably get rid of most dedicated mod knobs currently present in the module panels.

The only way Zebra gets away with the relatively small number of Matrix slots it has is because of all the dedicated mod knobs on the individual modules. Lose those and you would end up with like 3 tabs worth of mod slots... which is its own kind of clunky

The more I read this forum, the more proud I am to be a u-he "fanboi". To be honest, I rarely post on here, but out of the 5 synths ive bought over the last 5 years, 3 of them are u-he (and one is a string library..). But I just enjoy the conversations, the dialogue between company and customer. And though it may frustrate some due to inexact release timelines, I enjoy the sneak peeks and the glimpses into the mind and the workflow of u-he.
So cheers, gentlemen!

Looking at the patch again, I realize that this is one of the few presets I utilize the oscillator FX. I really need to remember to use them more often. Zebra offers so many fun components and I sometimes forget all about the oscillator FX.
The patch is without reverb as I was using an external reverb. I might as well have used Zebra's reverb, but I was multitasking and demoing reverb plugins at the same time. Just add internal or external reverb to taste.
