I'm just f**king about with the mac shit.
But heres BETA-0.1 for Win32 if anyones interested.

http://karbonlifeforms.kicks-ass.net/we ... sB-0.1.dll

The macoroni might take a few hours.

I'm probably fully aware of shortcomings...

Bank indicator looks shit (just added)
DnD dont work but clicking the drag button will put an exported midi file onto C:\ which is the wrong length (me ticks are wonky)
Modifier keys are not the same.
Velocity/NoteShift gauges/sliders still react even when not a note on.
Noteshift not right.
ctrl clicking shift the display but not the reality.

and others... Shocked

Anything else let me know. Oh chunks need sorting so dont expect it to save. OH! and I've not put Trigger button on yet.

And notes! Tell me about what notes are wrong etc!

I'm on the DnD then thats about it.

I gotcha back! good job.. I like resizing it! it's bizarre seeing them next to each other. It's like a cover band... righteousness! keep blazing the JUCE trails... I'm trying to follow right behind on this desolate road to ????

Hey KLF...don't give up. This is looking really good inside Tracktion, but it doesn't display properly in any other hosts I've tried. There doesn't seem to be a MIDI output defined in the other hosts also.

is this that little stepper thingy?

Just cause you can make a thuimble sized stepper, why bother?

I'm not surprised intrest wasn't higher..

make a whopper & come one over to eXT..make a nice sic retro-sci fi GUI that doesn't require coke-bottle glasses & you'll earn the praise & pig-like devotion of thousands :P

Stepper thing? Yes I suppose it is. I can make it a thimble and I can make it fill the screen. Your point?
A while back some folk wanted a Mac port of StepChild. No-one seemed up for doing it so I thought I'd give it a try. I knew nothing of VST, nothing of MIDI, very little of C++, nothing about GUIs, next to nothing about Delphi (SC was written in Delphi).
Mac version tommorow.

I've learned shitloads doing this. I've learned C++. Of course YOU MUST have wrote a f**king multi-track host on your first attempt or something.

Why bother?

Why indeed.

It's not groundbreaking no. It's not even my design. But thanks for putting me in my place.

Whoa, whoa whoa!!! You get me all wrong! I'm not dissing you, man! I just wanna see something like this that can be used in eXT is all..I don't wanna full blown screnfull of stepper stuff, but you know what I mean..I would never insult ANY dev even on early first steps..

Sorry you took that the wrong way. What I really meant to say is carry on & try the next bigger, better thing..& think beyond applications in Tracktion, get more users behind you, ya know?

The JUCE-VST EXT issue is not mine. Speak to Jules. As of this writing JUCE-VST is unfinished. Big style. I just tried something. I had to hack to get it working.

JUCE-VST does not report the window size proper, hence EXT probs. And my wee steppie port will become a lot more...

(its beta 0.1 for f**ks sake! and JUCE-VSTs not even a proper release!)

No offence taken.

OK in the big scheme this is f**k all. But when it worked I got real excited. And I put out the win32 beta. While knowing that only one person is interested in the MAC version(james)
The win32 is pointless and redundant unless ur mad for squidging. I am.
EXT? StepChild was made for tracktion but if stepchild works in EXT then so will StepForms. "Will" being the operative term. Maybe I should wait until none of the code looks anything like ModuLrs and I have a JUCE lisence and it does things of it's own............

Ok, I got it, now what does it do? Also, how many lines of code?

Nah Karbon,

Atleast two people are interested in the MAC version!

Keep on keeping on (to quote an iconic 70's Aussie advertising jingle)

Hey, thanks but there have got to be a bunch of people interested.

Don't take the lack of responses to mean there's no interest. This forum has always had more pc users.

Meanwhile, the tracktion article at www.osxaudio.com has 149330 views! If only 10% of those views resulted in downloads of the tracktion demo, we'd have nearly 15000 users who'd be interested in your plug. Add the media exposure that mackie will put into the T2 release and who knows what that number will be. Side note: the tracktion/mackie ads feature an apple monitor and are pitching to the mac crowd with the "ease of use" angle. Now if they'd only practice what they preach and keep the updates current for both platforms, not to mention support for mac standards like velocity engine optimization and au plugs.

I suggest you finish the mac version, get it to beta and post at www.osxaudio.com. Make sure to describe it as a tracktion plug and consider including any plans to port for au (you will get asked immediately). You'll get a ton of responses and provide a wonderful service to the mac community. Maybe, it will help you build a following that you could use for future commercial work. Mac users are VERY loyal.

Thanks again.

My apologies for drunken over-sensitivity last night!

steps. its nearly the same as StepChild.

lines? f**k knows. can I tell without counting in VS? number of lines is actually dropping as I slowly do an internal rewrite using juce.

Altered from Mods SC readme...

(oh) What you see is what you get! (dungalung dunk dungalung dunk...) This program really needs very minimal documentation, and I would
suspect that most people will easily be able to figure out how it works. So knowing this, I will simply
state that the key is in understanding that you are constantly working in a "buffer" and the role of
Left/Right clicking..

THE BUFFER
------------

When you are using StepChild, you must grasp the concept that you are constantly working in a
buffer. For example, if you create a pattern and then select a ANY pattern without saving your current
one, it will be erased. The reason for working in a buffer is because it's simply much faster once you
are used to it. So here is a suggestion in terms of how to work in this manner.. lay a few notes down
on the grid, and then rightlcick a pattern button to save it there.. Now you can add a few more notes,
rightclick a different pattern button and save it there. Now you have a very quick way to perform small
variations on your sequence.. since it is quite true that most often.. different patterns are typically just
variations of the intial one.

LEFT / RIGHT CLICK
--------------------

MidiChannel / Note / Octave Selection Panel
LEFTCLICK - Increments value (Midi Ch, Note, or Octave)
RIGHTCLICK - Deincrements value (Midi Ch, Note, or Octave)
CTRL+LEFTCLICK - Increments values in all banks (Midi Ch or Octave)
CTRL+RIGHTCLICK - Deincrements values in all banks (Midi Ch or Octave)

Note Input Grid
LEFTCLICK - Places a note on the grid which is in step mode.
RIGHTCLICK - Deletes a note box from the grid.. holding the right mouse button down
while dragging permits removal of whatever note-boxes you mouseover.

Modfier Keys for Note Input Grid
[SHIFT]LEFT CLICK - Places notes which will break an adjacent link and start a new note .
[ALT]LEFT CLICK - Places notes which will link to adjacent notes on notegrid .
[CTRL]LEFT CLICK - Will place NO notes.. but will select that bank, so velocities can be adjusted
without accidentaly entering notes.

Pattern Selector
LEFTCLICK - Selects pattern and loads it's contents into buffer .
RIGHTCLICK - Saves buffer contents to selected pattern .

VELOCITY PRESET PANEL
-----------------------

These four presets will set the velocity level as a percentage of the max note value for any note dropped
on the grid from that point forward. "100%" will reset it to maximum velocity. The bar to the right of
preset buttons permits a user adjustable preset.

Cheers dude. It'll compile to cross-platform VST and AU further down the line. I'll visit osxaudio when I get my head round a few xcode wierdnesses.
