It seems splice has added ozone 8 and neutron 2 to their rent to own programs. This is another option for building up ones library without losing on subscription programs. They should offer every plugin on the market above $30. It'd sell like hotcakes. In fact, why aren't the companies doing it directly?

Or you do what I did and buy from Sweetwater with their 36 months to pay with no interest. Such a great deal and makes the expensive stuff, like Kontakt Ultimate, affordable. Just remember to pay, I set up the autopay and the minimum payment will pay it off in 36 months. :tu:

Though it is probably not available outside of the US

Opinions on the actual SSL brand plugins?

I already have the Waves SSL bundle. As well as other console channel emulators like the Presonus one and the Slate one.
This worth $39 for just the buss module?

They had the essentials bundle a few years ago for like $129. I took a pass on it at the time as I didn't recall it sounding any better than the Waves, or perhaps it was less well used in the industry so I didn't bother. Can't remember why I skipped it. I also thought it was kind of out of date even then. But interested in input on it.

In case you missed it, an iLok dongle is required, and they offer a demo.

For me, I'll stick with what I have, and the Waves emulations also have the SSL branding and blessing.

Post

Didn't notice they had a demo. Thanks. NP on the ilok. I like ilok actually now. I used to hate them.
They're actually pretty stable nowadays and aren't tied to a machine or having to reauth again should the company go bust.
I like the platform now. Sacrilege I know.

Edit cos I was mistaken

Vintage Classics - VST Sound Instrument Set
Analog House - VST Sound Instrument Set
Sounds of Soul - VST Sound Instrument Set

For Retrologue. Shows in yen for me. But looks to be under $20 each or less based on the yen rate conversion. FYI.
Are any of these any good? Not too much info to be found on the interwebs. Don't even know if audio demos are 100% preset patches or mixed with other stuff.

No judgement here, but dongles are where I draw the line. Other folks who may be interested will want to know about that requirement, too. Thanks for the heads up.

If the SSL comp was soft-iLok i would snap it up.
but seriously, i never use my dongle iLok stuff in productions anymore really, it's a huge pain when i load the track when i'm out an about, and i realise that it needs the dongle for me to listen to it and work on it.

but that's a whole nuther can of wrigglies, isn't it.

I may have missed this, but has anyone determined whether or not Steinberg has a separate promo going for those of us in the US?

Or are we just excluded entirely from their Xmas calendar promotion?

Cheers

I have Cubase and I don't get the emails and can't find anything on their website about it. All links say "Not available in the US"

I notice the last email sale I got from them was a Black Friday one. Maybe that's all we get?

You can access it by using a VPN. If you do so you also need to delete the website cookie before you access the page. They keep location information in the cookie. But once you connected to a VPN and deleted the tracking cooking (or opened up a private browsing session) you can simply access the promotion through the Steinberg main page. And you might need to get creative with the address during the purchase process (have not tried that yet). They allow you to use Paypal, so you should be able to complete the purchase process. If you VPN into Europe, they will add VAT, but the promotion is also available in other parts of the world. When I accessed it through Japan yesterday, it even gave me US$ prices.

Even with soft-ilok I'd be skeptical. They haven't done much if anything with the maintenance besides the bare minimum. Somewhat surprised they haven't shelved them yet.

Wow, had to add Sounds7 to my foe list. Not only big and bright, but embedded soundcloud files that take forever to load. Yeah, no.
