Yeah, I think I'll mention this detail in the youtube video description, for future times.

(I didn't notice this because my stalking drone has been inactive for a few days. I think he found it and destroyed it...)

did we get some clarity from BJ on if we can use all 3 or we need to choose 1 for the track?

I totally agree with everyone else: This is absolutely amazing and one of the best and most inspiring things I've heard at OSC! Hats off, Sir!Guenon wrote:Not sure whether I'll enter this, but I'm sure some of you will find this literal one synth exercise entertaining![]()
Failure is success in progress.

Okay wowGuenon wrote:There's no patch switching at all. What I'm doing is, I'm using one single patch in that one FB-3100 instance for the whole duration, feeding it MIDI notes and controlling 10 different parameters with automation curves. There's no custom trickery in the way the automation works, no Ableton Live specific functionality or recalled instrument states. Just basic note events and automation curves, edited 100% by hand, not using generators or modulators of any kind for that parameter control. So the audible end result is achievable in any host. I think I'll describe the process more, with some practical examples here, when I post this on Soundcloud.H-man wrote:I'm intrigued tho (and often a little slow on the uptake) is this patch switching or extensive automation ....or both?
The key to sounding like that, and using only one instance in doing so, is asking what you need to do in order to get a particular sound color out of the synth, and what you can do at the same time or seemingly at the same time so that it gives an impression of functionally separate things happening simultaneously. Aesthetically this goes both ways, the end result sounds like this because it's done in that manner (a lot of sequential stuff happening in fast succession instead of multiple things layered with one another), and it can be a goal in itself, as an overall grungy sound, not necessarily a compromise.
Thanks for making these synths Björn, they rock, hadn't used any of them before.
Ditto - thanks again Björnjasinski wrote:WOW! That's very awesome. You are the man Björn.Full Bucket wrote:

Agreed, it's not really clear. Brian, can we get a ruling?jasinski wrote:did we get some clarity from BJ on if we can use all 3 or we need to choose 1 for the track?

Wotsup?
I try to download the updated VST's (windows) and all I get is a page with this text on it ...
dl/count/fb3300_1_0_3_winvst.txt
fb3300_1_0_3_winvst.zip
Same for 3100 and 3200
Cheers,
dB

It's something I enjoy doing even when not making a separate mention of itH-man wrote:The whole "Challenge inside a Challenge" thing as well ...it's just .....wtf?
But for example, for a good while (some days) in the Thorn round, I used the synth with all oscillators disabled. As the synth has a noise module and the default installation contains a selection of short noise WAVs, I decided to approach the synth as a lo-fi sampler with a very limited pool of source samples to pull from -- that is, the default WAVs it installs with.
So early experiments like this (pardon the demo hiss as I'm rendering now, I don't have a Thorn license
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ab9rwh3rxte6h ... e.mp3?dl=0
were made only by tuning the default samples in the noise module, adjusting the start offsets and finding resonances within those sounds, seeing how aliasing brings things forth using the lo-fi effects module and filters and so on. Tweaked further from there, this yilded a "lo-fi sample scratching" feel on many sounds, as that's what it basically is. This gave a variety of colors even with the handful of source samples.
By setting the glitch sequencer length to 1 there was another pair of stable filters (very limited ones, but still) that could be placed after the lo-fi and distortion modules without sacrificing the main filters -- if they could be placed there in the first place, that is -- and then automated.
I strictly didn't want to import anything into the spectrum modules, constructing everything inside the synth, but still wanted to have some kind of speech related stuff, so I made the word-like things at a couple of points in the track by sequencing similarly lo-fi aliased sounds, and so on.
Okay enough about that. The important thing for me in all of that is, when you change your approach you also change the outcome. Sometimes the outcome of a restricted experiment can actually be novel or desirable over a non-restricted approach. Probably not so evident in the Thorn track, but the aesthetic in the FB-3100 one I personally enjoy a lot, as I'm partial to lo-fi groovin' like that

So strange, I could've sworn one could sync the AM modulation frequency with the Keys?! Though, it still has KEY as input, the voltage ramp doesn't line up with the note frequency ramp, so to say. I really thought it was working before for some reason?!
...strange.
Maybe I'm missing something or had accidentally done something "right" earlier?

That's my semi-strong recollection as well? Maybe it works only in one/some of the models. Didn't use it in my experiment though, so don't know for sure.Taron wrote:So strange, I could've sworn one could sync the AM modulation frequency with the Keys?!
Edit: tried it in 3100 (init patch) and it works, maybe there's something funky with the patch or it's broken in some other model?
