Thanks Rob - that's kind of what I thought.

I'm more interested in using tags rather than folders, so I can see all "brass" presets (for example) in one place, rather than look through different folders. Right now, I've got the folders organised by "author" - ie Uhe, Ingo, different preset packs etc.
I realise that everyones needs are different, and everyone will organise things differently ;-)

I guess I'll just learn how to set up the tags for now (maybe make copies of existing tags) - but won't actually "organise" everything. ;-)

That's all good for saving if there are simple subcategories like Analogue, but I hope that there will be an option when searching to not have to click a sub-category. If I just want an aggressive bass, I think also picking a subcategory will be a hindrance, not a help.

New build new questions :-)
I note in Repro-1 at least, every category, has the same name as the first entry its the first subcategory.
Bass/Bass, Lead/Lead, Drums/Drums etc however clicking on Drums then Drums and the others show no factory presets.
What is the thought process behind having a subcategory with the exact same name?
thanks

That is to select All Bass presets that do not have a sub-category.

Ahh... got ya. I guess they couldn't/didn't want to find a way around that necessity?

Believe me, we really tried. :) It was probably the most heated discussed issue, we tried several things, but ultimately had to keep it the way it is, at least for the moment.

I'm sure you guys discussed making sub-categories completely optional; what's the argument against? I'm sure someone made a compelling case as to why sub-categories should be necessary, but as of yet, I just don't get what it could be. From my perspective it should be as simple as: 1) you tag a patch with a main category and/or optional sub-category, in the Browser, 2) clicking the main category shows anything with that main tag, and 3) clicking an optional sub-category shows patches only with that optional main+sub-category combination.

What's the use-case/argument for forcing it?

But it is NOT forced. You can just tag a preset with a main category without adding any sub-category. That's how it works right now.
But if we allow this, there has to be a way for the user to find those presets. And that is what this tag button in the sub-category section is good for. To find all presets which do not have a sub-category set.

Tbh I still don't get it.
why then doesn't the database search just search the main category to find all Basses, that is if I click Bass it does search main tag bass, and * for subcategories, unless I also choose a subcategory so it no longer searches the wild card for the subcategory.
Anyway to me it is strange but not a HUGEEEE issue :-)

Why not rename that tag to "no subcategory", then, instead of repeating the main category name?

hehehehe... that sounds familiar :hihi:

Haha, we tried exactly this and it looked ridiculous. Besides this, space issues. There is only a limited amount of space in the preset browser, and those super-long tag names would take a lot of space.

Please, please let's not re-start that whole discussion right now. We can think about this stuff again once the next update is in sight.

Yep. Didn't mean to open that whole can of worms.

Another question (maybe a bug, maybe a feature request): is Ctrl+Clicking to select non-continous presets int he browser supposed to work?

Shift+Clicking selects everything between the first and last presets clicked as expected, but Ctrl+Clicking doesn't. I was trying to mark a few non-adjacent presets as favorites.

Also I am not sure if this goes here or the main thread.
Hopefully it is a bug. lets say I have a category with lots of presets so there are several columns, if I say favourite an item in column4 or 5 or so, that is I needed to scroll to get there, once I favourite it, it jumps back to the first column... very unproductive.

It's CMD-click on Mac, and due to some unfortunate events, it's currently Alt-click on Windows.
It's supposed to be Ctrl-click on Windows, but we recently (actually, it was yesterday) discovered that there is a weird bug in our framework which makes it use the Alt-key instead of Ctrl.
