Hopefully Jules isn't waking up every day and coding the same piano roll improvements over and over again.ModuLR wrote:anyone ever see Groundhog's Day? That movie was funny...

I'm with Ron on this one... It's fine to speculate or talk about what might be in T2, or to still add feature requests, but it's pointless to complain about not hearing anything more about it, or to demand that we hear more about it. As CMM and others have pointed out, we already have heard some vague things from Jules and Mackie about T2, which is more than many companies would offer. I'm sure they're eager to get T2 out there, so when they're good and ready to tell us more, then we'll hear more.
My speculation based on what I've read here and on other factors is that T2 might come out in November to be available for the holidays, or otherwise it might not come out until next spring when people have money again (post-holidays and from tax returns), in which case it might be unveiled or previewed at the January NAMM.
I think it's probably close to being done but it may be a matter of when to best release it to get the most attention. Right now, Sonar 4 and Cubase SX3 and Live 4 (and isn't something else coming out soon?) are really making things crowded in the 'sequencer marketing' world. And considering T2 is already coming out after them, Jules might be trying to throw in some of the comparable features from these current releases into T2, in which case they specifically wanted to wait until now before finishing anything up.
For now, I'm quite happy with Sonar3 and T1, so I'm waiting to see if the $?? upgrade to T2 will be more worth the $99 upgrade to Sonar4 for me.

for marketing, there's no reason not to tell ANYTHING about T2, because we allready read about features of live sonar and cubase.
but seriously, i bought tracktion because of it's support and now jules acts like any other big company (should have known it after emagic given up pc support)
"huuu, we make a BIG secret of upcoming features and all of you will be sooo happy to finaly get it" i really miss the interactivity that happens here before mackie and we all know, that this was a big part of tracktions success.
btw. i like juce, but why has jules time to work on it ?! ok, maby it's also part of t2...who knows if noone tells...

With T1´s evolution it felt here like you had something to say, that you were herd, and that you were helping out evolving a fantastic product. That feeling is long gone after mackie came, and after jules absence, but it had to happen!! Sad but true, its just the next step for T´s evolution. Jules dont have time to ansvare mails from customers for years to come, but it was probably necesary, and usefull when he worked on T1. I have full understanding that he has a life outside this comunity, and I think everybody here agree when they think about it!! But, heck it was so nice to be able to speak to the developer!
I will though recomend him that it might be a wise choice to come here a bit more often, it will create stronger, more loyal customer relationships!
Heads up, its just the next step for T!
I catch myself checking this forum far to often, from old patterns.
this thread reminds me of that yet again!!
..what the hell am I doing here?
Wating for T2 is pointless, I agree that theres no point in hoping for any news before the end of this year, and I try tell myself, and all others it might concern, that its pointless, frustrating and a waste of energy to repeatedly apply for T2 news here! For people that are interested in T, i tell them to check in on it at the ending of this year, when T2 should be out. i tell them to wait until then, because the midi editor is shit right now. in the mean time, make music, or do something else!! just dont get adickted to this forums waiting mases!

If one's expectations are high, it's one's own fault for feeding it with speculation based on very limited and or outdated information. Lesson here, keep your expectations low and don't worry about T2.
All the features in the other software releases sound wonderful... but trust me, most people didn't see it coming until let the cat out of the bag... and now everyone is getting all gooshy over it... so it's spilling in here as whining because we have no T2 update info to follow all the raving Sonar and SX reviews.
Get over it folks... get over it.
(not intended in a mean way BTW).
regarding time to work on JUCE... understand that JUCE is the underpennings of Tracktion itself. I don't think people quite get the implications JUCE has.. the release of JUCE in itself was like an update! because now there are quite a few code junkies taking a stab at it to provide folks with crossplatform plugins.. and other T'ish ideas. In addition to the fact that Jules has the ability to make it such that we can write very tracktion specific plugs which have funtionality you can only get in tracktion. That IS a big deal in the long run if it's handled right.
besides, would any of the big wigs open source a huge chunk of their code which goes well beyond plugins? Stop thinking with such immediacy folks..

Exactly. All I want is ghost clips (which I'm sure Jules could probably code in an afternoon), and lockable track sizes. Loop recording would be a big bonus. Thats pretty much all I'm expecting or wishing for. Everything else is gravy on the biscuit. And I'm expecting T2 to be released sometime in 2005. Hopefully my expectations are low enough to not be dissapointed.ModuLR wrote: Lesson here, keep your expectations low and don't worry about T2.

Some of the most enduring music of all time was recorded on magnetic tape, in mono, and edited with a razor blade and a steady hand.
Before you complain about not having this feature or that upgrade, consider how lucky you already are, and then divert the energy you spend complaining into improving your music skills. More features won't make you a better musician.

Wait a second. I didn't come here mad at Jules or Mackie. And I didn't come here complaining. As a matter of fact, I'll put on record that Tracktion already has everything I need to make music. But I'm excited about T2 and want to see how it ends up, as I WILL buy it the day it's out.
However, as I said, one of Tracktion's selling points is support. I understand that it's not feasible for him to come here like he did. But I don't think it's too much to ask for him to just show up and say things are coming along. No promises, as they can't be made.
Please don't take this as whining. I'm content with T1, and would stick with it if Tracktion development was abandoned. But come on, it would just be really cool to hear from somebody. If nothing can be said, please come here and say that.
No matter what happens, I'm in this thing. And I will patiently wait, without complaining. I will be polite. No offense to anyone, including Jules. I respect him very much, and regard him highly. Cheers!

Guys, stop acting like children and behave like men!
Things will be announced when they are announced. T2 will be ready when it's ready. Point.
We all know anyway, Jules is reading the suggestions and ideas and will decide what he will implement and what not.
He definately doesn't sleep all day, instead of developing his baby further.
And don't expect from him to show his cards.
Tracktion is a professional sequencer and so Jules acts as a professional. That's fine for me.
It will be ready when it's ready.
Let's make music in the meanwhile.

if that is professional, than i don't like professionals.
i agree to koolkeys. it's not whining it's just waiting for a sign. everybody knows that emagic, steinberg, ableton are big companies and they surely go on developing their products. jules is just ONE person. if he thinks "oh, at the moment I'm bored working on tracktion" the whole project stops till he changes his mind. i know he's a genius but genius often get bored in doing the same thing all the time
an that i come to this thinking is because t1 lacks some minor and fast to do things that where often talked about but where never been made. it all began with jules saying more often "sorry folks, I'm very busy with things" but when he was soo busy where are the improvements and bugfixes. seems like t1 wasn't the priority a long time. i only wan't to know, if it is at the moment. that's just one sentence !!! ("yes, I'm working a lot on T2" or "I'm fixing things in T1 at the moment")
if you cantact steinberg or emagic support and tell them a problem, they say SOMETHING to it or if it will be fixed or when this feature could be available. surely they don't write it down on their website to early, but you can ask them and if they knew they say something like "i'm not sur, but it should be available in one of the nearer updates" i know it, because i've had logic.

I am pretty patient regarding the T2 upgrade but to be honest I can't see what could be lost in telling us what is coming up. Worst case scenario would be they could get some feedback on the usability or public perception of the changes/improvements.

I can make music fine with Tracktion but I'm starting to outgrow it and I'm really starting to miss some of the features that you get in a lot of the other sequencers.
The longer that it goes before I hear something about T2 the more likely I am to jump ship and upgrade my old copy of Cubase VST or get Ableton Live. I'd rather stick with Tracktion but I'm really starting to need an improved timestretch, external midi sync and midi control for automation.
It's true that having the latest and greatest features won't make you a better musician, but I'm starting to feel like Tracktion is limiting me.
This is not a dig at either Mackie or Jules; like I said, I can get by at the minute with what I have but I'd rather not have to "make do"... why use workarounds when there are perfectly good tools to do the job right now.
Tracktion has served me well but I'm starting to think that I might have to move on if an update is too far away.

I have to agree. I was an early adopter mostly on the strength of "workflow" and Jule's active participation. Still, I've written more music with tracktion than I ever managed elsewhere so I'm sticking with it for the foreseeable future.
