But but but assembled in assembler.

But we don't know any of that, how much time he spends on it, how much money he makes from it, or even if he needs it live on. The guy has been coding for decades and that wasn't his only product. Maybe he already has enough money to not care. We also don't know how many users that product has as not everyone using a daw talks about it every day on the Internet. If he's just one guy selling 4 copies a month to a certain demographic, who here has made anything that brings in that kind of personal income?chk071 wrote:Sometimes i don't understand devs. The guy can surely not live from this, and why spend a lot of your free time on something you know very few people will use anyway? .
Maybe he just likes doing it because, unlike most of us, it's something he personally created that nobody can ever take away from him. We can't assume that every developers motive is to rule the world or any particular software market, or to even get rich doing it.
Just saying, we need to take off the blinders and not assume that everyone has the same motive for doing anything.

It's easy to mock, it's a bit harder to create anything of value.
Look at some of his past creations, I'm sure he's probably got enough money to not care and he's not exactly a spring chicken. I bought his ProMix01 control software some long decades ago, before there ever was a thing named Bitwig or Tracktion or Cubase Audio or whatever probably.
The current young generation just has no respect. Most of them never create anything of value, they just go on the net and rag on people's work. The guy made a living in tech, not worrying how he'd pay for the next shiny software update while working at Burger King.
We should all do so well, working for ourselves, not others.

Yes I would expect a barebones DAW made back when CPUs ran at less than 200MHz to be fast.It fast

Jumping on the LawrenceF bandwagon, the lack of just basic business knowledge is truly staggering here sometimes. I work on systems that charge thousands and thousands of dollars per seat AFTER buying the core software for hundreds of thousands, and charge 28% and more annual maintenance ... which does not include upgrades. This little niche world of $2 plugins and phone apps is a joke. Hard working, knowledgeable/skilled devs who have spent endless hours slaving over algorithms then getting mocked and/or ridiculed pisses me off sometimes.
Many businesses actually CHOOSE ON PURPOSE to ignore the cheap assed unwashed masses, simply so they don't have to deal with mainstream bullshit. You'd be shocked at the number of millionaires out there that couldn't care less if they ever sell you a $5 widget for your iPad.

it's easy to be condescending/politically correct/righteous on forums too and quite annoying sometimes too, especially when you shove your opinions like this, just saying.LawrenceF wrote:It's easy to mock, it's a bit harder to create anything of value.

It's actually not condescending. What's condescending is calling SAW users "suckers" when the real suckers are more likely people chasing shiny toys and scrounging pennies to keep up with the latest shiny thing while not a making a dime, while they're out making money, not caring about the shiny.
They'd probably call you suckers because they know money and success comes from talent and work, not shiny software.
Just saying, you can dislike a thing and still show respect for the work, especially if you've contributed nothing of value to the planet.

You found something worth respecting and go on respect it, but why shoving someone else all that righteous stuff being disrespectful towards him, it's paradox, just saying.LawrenceF wrote:Just saying, you can dislike a thing and still show respect for the work, especially if you've contributed nothing of value to the planet.

It's interesting how you can easily severely criticize people you don't know, call them suckers, rag on peoples hard work, but when someone criticizes you, you turn into a little snowflake and get all butt hurt.
That's the paradox.
That's the paradox.

We are going in circles, I never claimed it's okay, you started all this righteous preach like some kind of authority, but you are not better than me when you are doing exactly the same thing, so get off your high horse.LawrenceF wrote:It's interesting how you can easily severely criticize people you don't know, call them suckers, rag on peoples hard work, but when someone criticizes you, you turn into a little snowflake and get all butt hurt.

Your counter is as much hyperbole as the original argument. Choosing a modern stable DAW because it has useful features and U/I, and ignoring an outdated and outmoded DAW because it is exactly that, is not "chasing shiny toys." You are dismissing the efforts of thousands of dedicated programmers and designers who have most certainly improved the state of the art with respect to the user experience and software quality in your defense of Bob.LawrenceF wrote:It's actually not condescending. Further, I remember, Bob was something of a disconnected character back in the day. SAW has always been a bit of an egotistically driven product that was based in truth in only some small way in the earliest of days. There was some value to the assembler approach at some point, however, today, it comes at too great a cost and has long since lost its value. To deny this is to be somewhat ignorant of contemporary compiler technology.
