If you buy gear credits, you can get it cheaper still. And if you have any jam points, you can use them to buy gear credits. I bought Syntronik for $75 that way this November. The more gear credits you buy, the cheaper they are, I got the 300 credits for $225, and with jam points it was $159, I updated my T-racks for $75 that way too. That's really the thing to do buying anything from IK.CT007 wrote:Well, ST3 is $175 right now! Or $250 with all the expansion packs. Have you ever bought from IK before? Every time you buy something, you accrue 'jam points' that you can use towards buying their stuff. 1 point = $1 basically. And then they have a 'custom shop' app that lets you buy their stuff for 'Gear credits' that you buy within the app. Anyhow, you can use those jam points to buy gear credits.CT007 wrote:I've never even heard of these credit & points before, haha.braj wrote:If you buy gear credits, you can get it cheaper still. Regardless, if you want Sampletank for $175, you can buy 200 gear credits for $159, save $15 and get 25 extra gear credits to use to buy something else. You should first get the Sampletank CS and try it out to see if you like it, it is free with some demo sounds, even if you get Halion it still might be useful, and if you have any old Sampletank banks, they can be imported and used in the free CS version (I think).

I am thinking of getting it, as with the upgrade from ST2xl it is just $99 on their sale. The MAX version upgrade is $149.braj wrote:If you buy gear credits, you can get it cheaper still. When I originally bought ST2xl, I also bought SonikSynth2, and both together were just $99.

Yes. HALion Sonic 3 comes with HALion 6. HALion Sonic 3, as a rough estimate, has about 95% of the presets of HALion 6.CT007 wrote:Awesome info, boss! So you get HS3 with H6..? I don't see a need for H6, is why I picked HS3. Hm...
HALion Sonic 3 does not require a dongle, if I recall correctly. I mainly use a dongle because I also own Cubase, which does require a dongle. The downside is that only one machine activation is permitted.CT007 wrote:Well, ST3 is $175 right now! Or $250 with all the expansion packs. HS3 = $250 + dongle/whatever.
SampleTank 3 is a good deal for $175. I would definitely download the SampleTank Custom Shop version and HALion Sonic 3 demo to determine which workflow and features best suite your needs.

I doubt anyone born on earth would prefer the SampleTank 3 workflow. Even the people who like its sounds seem to hate the interface.
Yes, Halion Sonic doesn't require a dongle anymore. You can just log into your MySteinberg account to move the license to another computer if needed.
The biggest advantage Halion 6 has over Halion Sonic is that it gives you much deeper editability. You get full access to a virtual analog synth, the best granular synth in the market, an organ emulation, a very easier to use sampler, and a very good and clean sounding wavetable synth that can import .wav files made for Serum. The next version will add a FM synthesizer.
Halion Sonic gives you access to all of these, but you're stuck with the stock samples and slightly less editing options here and there. It's by no means "crippled" though, it still gives you much deeper editability than SampleTank.

Good idea! I kept looking at the HS3 SE notes, "does not include any content" ._. Steinberg does not do a good job at explaining the what's & how's of these demos, lol.Silaris wrote:I would definitely download the SampleTank Custom Shop version and HALion Sonic 3 demo to determine which workflow and features best suite your needs.

Halion Sonic SE isn't the demo version, the one that's not included with Cubase is just a free "player" for user-made libraries.CT007 wrote: Good idea! The actual demo can be found here:

This thing is tricky... It doesn't show either of the audio output devices I actually use(of 3 I have) in the ASIO panel thing. I had to go into Preferences > Advanced > "Control Panel", de-select "Allow ASIO exclusive control", and then they finally showed up... *facepalm*Romantique Tp wrote:The actual demo can be found here:

Halion is an actual synth, and Sonic is just a sample player, correct? So, one gets the entire Sonic sound set with Halion? I'm looking through the Steinberg site, and they really aren't clear on this. Is there any benefit to getting both?

You get Halion Sonic 3 for free if you buy Halion 6. Everything made for Halion Sonic can be loaded and edited in Halion.husker37 wrote:Halion is an actual synth, and Sonic is just a sample player, correct? Both are real synths, but Halion 6 gives you even more freedom for making your own sounds, and it allows you to load your own samples. You can also make sample libraries and preset collections that can be loaded by users of Halion Sonic 3 and the free Halion Sonic SE 3, with custom scripting and macro interfaces.

Got it, thank you. I was looking at the Absolute Collection, but given that I have Cubase Pro, I really only need to look at just Halion then. Some of the Absolute collection instruments I have with Cubase, and the others seem fairly old.
