Clearly not enough people have tried Podium yet. Y'all will come around sooner or later

On a serious note, I do hope that people do get turned on to Podium. It is really a great piece of kit.
Tried once to install it, crashed my system :(

But where is my loved Tracktion?
It has to be there too.

and maybe in a while eXT will join the "big" ones

Read my intro on page 1. Tracktion was already a member of "The Big 4" to begin with.

I need a bunch of opinions & facts on the next software that you think can make this the big 5 and why.

Personally, soft studios shouldn't count because by nature, they can work with or against sequencers. But of some, you love options :!: :!: :!: :)
This was my statement from page 1.

...where's audacity..? :D

I went with Podium, more because I like it than anything else.

wrt to NTrack, its not intended to be in the running for 'top 5' or whatever. The dev knows his market and users, and is quite happy with it. I use NTrack ~50% and Podium the other ~50% the last ~% is audacity for wave editting.

But, aside from all this, can we still be friends? I mean it's not as if a skilled carpenter with a old saw can't make as nice a chair as a poor carpenter with a BlackNDecka..

Teksonik wrote:Tony, Why do you need this "serious" research? No really what do you hope to acomplish? Define "Big" and who cares what app makes the big 5? Everyone should use what works best for them. So far all your research has proven is that it's easy to start a flame war over Host/Sequencers. Anyone who has been a member of KVR for even a short while could have told you that without a poll. If you're looking for advice on which app would be best for your needs you should present the question in that form or better yet try the demos and see what works best for you. I'm sorry I really just don't get the point of this poll.
1)Computer Music may/may not have made a mistake in their reporting. :?

2) I trying to understand the software of the future of music production (so far, it looks like Live or soft studios in general). :)

3) Does anyone ever understands what they're reading since page 1??? :?
1)If you can prove they made a mistake address the issue with CM magazine.

2)If you want to understand the software of the future wouldn't it be better to try them yourself.Don't most have demos?

3) No I don't understand because you're not making any sense. What's the difference between Cubase SX and "Soft Studios"? Who cares what are the "Big 5" It's all SUBJECTIVE. I still see no point to this poll.

That's bollocks! FL and ORION probably have at least as big a feature-set as traditional sequencers and these days the overlap is about 90% or better. If FLstudio has a focus its on obscure workflow.
And Orion's workflow is crude and it's still the most unstable app I own. See Tony this is all your poll will acomplish. People will argue to their dying breath in defense of their favorite Host /Sequencer and no one will change anybody's mind. It's just pointless. Use what works for you and let other's use what works for them and leave it at that.
Come on Tek, BONES will never need mine or anyones help in provoking controversy. Beside, he love Orion as much as I love FL Studio. And BONES' killer synths works perfectly in both of our respected soft studios. :)

As for myself, I want to know everyone's opinions.
I trust the KVR more for information than the mainstream all together. :D
No Bones needs no help in voicing his opinion but you've simply given him and everyone else the chance to continue this pointless discussion about Host/Sequencers. If you want other's opinions fair enough but in the end the only opinion that matters is your own.

I use cubase sx 2.2 and without being Bias from the reviews im reading it looks like "Ableton live 4" is going to be setting the standards in the future

Post

This is a laughable thread/poll at best.
But I'm afraid that in the end it's rather clueless.

Live made an impact at version 1.

Its the first software designed with Live performance specifically in mind. But then Ableton go and do something the others wouldn't dream - THEY LISTENED TO THEIR USER BASE!

I f**king detest Steinberg. They can kiss my hairy winnit filled anus.

No, your poll was seriously clueless as well.
If you were reading most of the pages of this thread to start with, you would have seen me saying:
Computer Music mess up on their information before I did. :(
LOL, what a f**king excuse is this? Just too funny...
you need to understand that this is serious research for me. I need to know if CM were right for calling Tracktion a member of "The Big 4" or not. 8)
Your logic is hilariously twisted. So you "research" whether "CM were right for calling Tracktion a member of "The Big 4" or not" by putting Tracktion in the big 4 and seeing what kind of controversy follows? I hope you have realized that the majority of those who think this poll is ridiculously poorly tailored - that is, most likely the majority of those reading this thread - are not going to answer the poll? Furthermore, those who answer are most likely rather bewildered as to what you're actually asking, and they are probably answering from a standpoint like "yes, Live rules, Im using it myself, I'll just give it a vote here". If so, they aren't even really answering the question. Consequently, none of the results you are getting are worth shit.

I mean, what does it mean to be a part of the big 4? Having a large user base, being an industrial standard of sorts, being a good app? You don't seem to have a clue yourself. And if you needed this poll to become aware that Live is a very much worthy app then, by all means, but I seriously doubt it will be regarded as part of the Big 4 or 5 in a long time (after all, its starting point is live performance).
3) Does anyone ever understands what they're reading since page 1???
You sure don't, that's for sure. I hope you are not regarding the fact that some people bothered to click 'vote' as evidence that this poll is after all serious reseach and that the results bear any significance. Please. I wholeheartily agree with what Jens posted, yes.

And more people drive Fords than Ferraris, does that make a Ford a better car?
Did I say it was better?
Or even good?
Or that I liked it?
Or that I give a shit what anyone uses?

No. I said it had a large userbase.

This thread sums up all that I think is detrimental to this community.

It's just another unhelpful and totally uninformative one and it can lead to nothing else than asking yourself "why the hell should I give a f**k about what those guys think is the next "big" sequencer?"

Because in the end, the best sequencer is the one that suits you better, the one that allows you to express your feelings the better, whatever Computer Music Magazine thinks. If Bones sees Orion as such, Putte Logic, and whoever tarnce producer FL studio,Reason, Renoise or N-Track it's fine.

It's the output that counts, really.

Post

Yea, considering how many times you ask a legitmate question around here and don't get an answer...

Post

Come on guys, it's just a poll, OK?

If it bothers you don't read it.

This thread might have been at least entertaining if it didn't consist of 20 "this thread is stupid" posts.

It might even have been informative as different people would prefer different sequencers for different reasons.
