That should prompt another thread: which company should take over and resurrect Sonar in 2018?
Given the Windows Only aspect of Sonar, Microsoft themselves would seem like the ideal Suspect no?
They’ve been trying to appeal to professionals with Windows 10 and they even were scouting for audio programmers here a while back so it wouldn’t be too crazy. They certainly have more than enough money to pull of a purchase.
I don’t know, just speculating.
Maybe you are on to something. I remember reading somewhere that Cakewalk engineers worked closely with Microsoft engineers which helped to influence Microsoft to improve the real-time high definition audio capabilities of Windows (e.g. multi-core processing; WASAPI; etc.). Also, Microsoft got to witness how well Cakewalk integrated touchscreen capabilities into the Sonar software (which had been a big deal to Microsoft). Maybe the working relationship between the two companies was enough to make Microsoft consider an acquisition of Cakewalk's software intellectual property.

Magix are planning a new version of Acid for 2018 ...

Cubase 10 will be released at the end of the year.
Since it's "Pro" now, it will actually be called Cubase Pro X.

Wont happen as long as rewire is pc and mac only.
Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

I know, it was more an overly optimistic forecast :D, but one day, that one thing could be the reason to pick up Bitwig, just for Rewiring into Studio One.

FL Studio is jumping from 12 to 20?
I know. It is as if they really want the version number change to signify a major point release, just like it would if the version number were moving from 1.2 to 2.0 (just move the decimal point ).
It’s for a few reasons actually.
Primarily to celebrate FLs Birthday.
Also to avoid the superstitious reputation of the number 13.

It does sound so weird however...FL 20. Meeugh. Gonna take a bit of time getting used to.
I expect all the features we would have had with 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19... otherwise we've been ripped off!! :x :x :x

Yea definently. The history is there. And it makes a lot of logical sense like I said given Microsoft’s recent shift to creative professionals and their attempt to take macs thunder. I’d imagine if they were to pull it off they would treat it like apple does logic. Put it on the Microsoft store, maybe tone the price down like Apple did with logic and make it an affordable professional option aimed exclusively for Windows users with fantastic Microsoft hardware integration and fantastic touchscreen compatibility.
And maybe even throw in all of the fantastic cakewalk plugins like Zeta 2 and Rapture...
I don’t know. Some loyal users I’m sure would have their doubts about it and Microsoft running it in general but I don’t think it’d be all that bad of a marriage. I think it would be kinda cool. Better then just letting all of it die I guess.
But that’s just me.
The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.

Let me ask you this, would you want Microsoft to just buy Cakewalk and continue Sonar Platinum, or would you rather the former Cakewalk employees go to work for Microsoft on a brand new DAW written from the ground up with all new code optimized to work with Windows 10 and up?

I think that Microsoft will buy Gibson and shelve the guitar division...

Then they will resurrect Cakewalk and get Sonar happening again...

But the best part is that they will sack Henry da Vandal and send him off to outer space with a Gibson Led Paul with those stupid automatic tuners that he dreamed up,a bottle of water and a packet of Cheerios...

Best to let the Martians figure out what is wrong with him

Anybody remember Microsoft was hiring for a project that sounds like a DAW?
In the preview video for Creators Update, they actually have something called Groove Music Maker, which looks like a Garageband to me.

It was before Cakewalk being axed, so I believe they're working on their own DAW. It's unlikely they'll buy Sonar, but I do hope they do. They could make Groove Music Maker their Garageband and Sonar their Logic.
