Aux buss ? How to do this ?

I'm a bit confused here. So a litle advice would be appreciated.

So Tracktion has no classic mixer like other studio software. This is fine to me, you just drop an effect on a track, tweek his setting and determine the dry/wet %.
I understand it as that Tracktion handles all effects as inserts.
But...
Suppose I want to this :
let's say i have a piano track. Now i want to add a little reverb to it, but I want to pan the piano slightly left and the return of the reverb slightly right.
In a 'normal' studio setup, you would put the reverb on a Aux bus, attach the aux bus to the piano and pan the return of the aux bus.
Can this be done in Tracktion?

I really think I'm missing something here :?

Hi

Yes you can do the whole bus thing in many different ways in T.

First go over to ADBE and check out their tutorial on racks within tracktion - http://www.adbe.org/guides/tracktion/racks.html

The same question was asked a couple of months ago, a number of other solutions were given - go to http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=49090

Hope this helps

Thanks Simon,

I'll study the rack topic.
From a first overview, as I understand it, I will have to build my proper mixer :? :) using racks

Rony,

If you're using a PC i seem to recall someone actually built a mixer for Tracktion, but I can't remember where...maybe it was hosted at Tracktion Faction..

Good Luck!

Hi again

yes, there is a TF mixer at Tracktion Faction - it does the job tho I found it a bit heavy on the old cpu. It's at http://www.tracktionfaction.com/modules ... oad&cid=50

I found this mixer whilst searching - don't know how good it is
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/693.html

But really, I find that racks are a good way to go.

for a different solution you can use senderella, a handy plug in by ModuLR get it here

http://subminimal.org/tools.php and see the post I gave the url to earlier for a quick tutorial from yours truly!!

You DO NOT need a mixer - although I know you think you do! I know this cos I moved to T from Cubase and it took me a couple of months to get over the mixer thing - but eventually I realised that I only need a send, or some reverb on the left channel only, or an insert, or a group - it all depends on the track, and so much of cubase is sitting there, being complicated, taking up resources and screen estate.

Having said this - if I want to do serious midi editing, I gravitate back to cubase - I really hope that T2 does something about it's woefully inadequate quantise abilities!

Hi again Simon,

I have read the documentation on tracktion racks and you are right, I don't need a mixer :!:

Is is actually pretty simple what I want to do.
I have tested it, just create a send rack.
1.Put the send rack on the track(s) where you want the aux send.
2. Put the send track allso on a extra track (the aux track) and add the reverb.

That's it.

Thanks you very much for your advise. I realise now the potential of the racks in Tracktion.

PS: Simondsouza ? Something to do with Linda de Souza :?:
I guess not :? :D

If you don't need to "share" the reverb across any other tracks, you can do it more easily: Just create a Rack containing your reverb plug & two Vol/Pan filters, one for the dry piano signal, and one for the (100% wet) reverb outputs. This Rack can then be treated as an insert effect like T's other effects: no need for a "return" track..

well I guess that's that sorted....

mixers yah boo sucks!!!

filters yeah woopee wow :D

Yes you are right, and studying racks I came up with that option. Except that I didn't specify in my post that there is allso a bit of compression on the piano track and I suppose I send the piano track 'before' compression to the reverb.
This is all very interresting, I am a long time user of classical hardware studio, with 'sliders' and 'knobs'. My first software studio was Quartz Audio Studio Professional which is an exact representation of such a hardware studio.
Now with Tracktion there are a couple of concept that I have to rethink from scratch, challenging.

You have various options:

The most traditional approach would be to simply insert the compressor BEFORE the reverb rack on the piano track..

Alternatively, insert the compressor AFTER the reverb for a slightly different sound..

Or, if you feel like it, try putting the compressor inside the rack; then you can compress just the dry signal, or just the signal that feeds the reverb, or even the reverb returns.. :D

One of the things I like most about Tracktion is this flexibility: I feel it encourages me to experiment, cos its just so easy to re-arrange filters.

One thing i would like to be able to do is assign rack outputs to differnt tracks and psysical outs.

you can: copy the rack to another track & select a different pair of outputs in the rack dialogue..
