Can the Big 4 sequencers become 5 to 7?

I totally agree with you, this guys not stopping anybody from learning anything, and in the least its just a conversation, i mean damn nobodys talking about genocide sheesh lighten up a little.
I think its interesting though that people think live not to be to serious cause it started out as a live application, especialy since 'live application' is looking to be where the big boys going, and since live has already been there, done that, then where will it be in the future.... me thinks somewhere very tasty.

Use what works for you and let other's use what works for them and leave it at that.BONES wrote:That's bollocks! FL and ORION probably have at least as big a feature-set as traditional sequencers and these days the overlap is about 90% or better. If FLstudio has a focus its on obscure workflow.Jaeson Merrill wrote:FLstudio will never be on the big list, cause its very focused, and rocks , and is cheap
orion??? what the heck is orion anyway.. I vaguely remember seeing it like 2 years ago on some maganize page... wasnt it "orion platinum" ?
whats so good about that one?
link? demo?
indeed, by the way, i own FLstudio and use it as my primary sequencing app. The reason i mentioned it as never being an uber app, at least not now, is because it doesnt have full blown audio recording features, and imo, it doesnt need them, but of course ,
the "big-four" is dictated my morons who are either old-school freaks, or people that are getting buttkissed from the software companies.
if i had it my way,
(first of all actually, there would be no bloody list)
but anyway, its the stuff that is like Tracktion, Live, FLstudio and EXT represent that are the true foward leanings of creativity and modern ideas (not to mention a few others)
and even though im not too familiar with them all, i think they push the envelope, and i like that.
I think Cubase SX, Logic, and samplitude are awesome hosts, but the over-rated-ness annoys me, in the case of cubase, logic and especially pro tools. I definetly gravitate more towards samplitude when it comes to recording, as it has features such as: object editing (which i use constantly), freeze (which i use quite often), and a few other things..
anyway
ahem..

orion comes in several flavors, demo available.Jaeson Merrill wrote:

regarding workflow being crude, it's a matter of opinion. I get work done a lot faster in orion than I do FL. and it's become much more stable. wtf, I've lost stuff in both Orion Plat and FL Studio

No way in hell this thread could have became informative. Neither was it / could it have become entertaining. This was very obvious from the beginning. Furthermore, the thread contains almost no "this thread is stupid" -remarks, but many points about why this poll is poorly laid out. These points were quite relevant, moreso as the author stubbornly insisted that he's doing credible research here.cptgone wrote:This thread might have been at least entertaining if it didn't consist of 20 "this thread is stupid" posts.
It might even have been informative as different people would prefer different sequencers for different reasons.
Who ever said Live is not a serious application? Let me clarify: no one. You people are blatantly misreading this thread. Being a part of the Big 4 or 5 or whatever has nothing to do with the worth or "seriousness" of the application.stale bread wrote:I think its interesting though that people think live not to be to serious cause it started out as a live application
Might be, but imo being in the Big X is in no way dictated by the creativity or freshness of the application (or even value, for that matter). I mentioned a while back that the person who made the poll hasn't clearly thought out what does it actually mean for a host to be a part of Big 4 or whatever. CM seemed to think that Big 4 = the 4 applications with the biggest user bases. I disagree with this.Jaeson Merrill wrote:but anyway, its the stuff that is like Tracktion, Live, FLstudio and EXT represent that are the true foward leanings of creativity and modern ideas (not to mention a few others)

IMO being a part of the Big 4 or X means that the application has a well established position in the pro industry. Plugins are tailored for it, engineers, producers and studios use it etc. This alone renders Tracktion out of Big anything - a lot of people working in the industry aren't even aware of its existence.
Anyway, there are numerous ways of framing the defining criteria that make a host part of Big something. One of the reasons why this poll was so clueless was imo that this issue was obviously not considered at all.

yes, i agree with this, just because those ones i mentioned (flstudio, tracktion, whatever) are exciting with new ideas, it doesnt mean they are the BIG ones. no doubt, the big four are logic, cubase, pro tools, and sonar. No questions asked. But that doesnt mean they are worth a rat's crap.visa tapani wrote: IMO being a part of the Big 4 or X means that the application has a well established position in the pro industry. neither does tracktion have a huge userbase (comparably) or have a place in the industry in the moment. Id love to see that change...
but no, not even close. cooledit/audition and protools easily top everything on the list in terms of users. And FL probabaly goes way above that even.

Hey,
Someone mentioned that they expected me to comment on this. So here i am.
Pointless thread. Who cares? Is it suppoed to make you feel better if you use one of the "big 4" or something?!
"Ooh, i use reason and it means i'm great becuase the prodigy used it". "No, cubase is better because big producers use it".
Unfortunately it seems some people here use software only to try to impress strangers on a forum. Go out and get laid for f**ks sake!

This has to be the mosy absurd thread that I've ever seen and probably one of the worse polls ever. I agree with RR's original post on the subject.
Pro Tools, Samplitude and Cool Edit have far more users than Tracktion. I understand that there is a cult following behind it, but let's get serious, do you honestly think that Traction has a bigger market share than Pro Tools?

Why does anyone give a shit? Just cos something is more popular doesn't make it better. Do the pop charts not show us this?!7XL wrote:This has to be the mosy absurd thread that I've ever seen and probably one of the worse polls ever. I agree with RR's original post on the subject.

Are you suggesting that Tracktion is betterr than the others on the list?
Or are you just trying to be funny? I'll take it that you're trying to be funny and just leave it at that.

the big 4 are obviously
Live 1
Live 2
Live 3
and Live 4
I just picked the first one because this is a rediculous poll & I was curious what others picked!

Well... IF there's something such as "4 big sequencers" it's got to be ProTools, Logic, Cubase and perhaps Digital Performer (which isn't even listed at all).quincy wrote: Why does anyone give a shit? Just cos something is more popular doesn't make it better. Do the pop charts not show us this?!
At least those are the ones being used on almost any major production.
Things might change, there might be a bigger user base for something such as Fruity Loops as well - but that's totally beyond the point. The whole poll is.
Also, what's that fuzz regarding "soft studios" all about? I mean, hello - ALL the listed sequencers ARE soft studios, in case you're using them as such. And many people are.
Apart from all that - what's the purpose of such a poll? Will it result in anything meaningful? No! Will it change anybody's mind when making a decision? No! Is it a poll worth any scientifical value? No!
Is it even worth wasting my time reading this thread? No!
So there... seeya in another thread.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
