New to Waveform questions : rendering / freeze / buses vs submix ect ...

Hi amigos !!
first of all i wanna wish you guyz all a happy new year , health and peace of mind !!
I'm going deeper in waveform , and took the approach of unlearning what i used to do to stick with its state of mind , that said , some terminology or some features got me spending time on stuff and i need to validate certain things .
I create a project , Maschne was inserted in a rack and set to multimbrale manually , each maschine out feeding audio tracks (M1 , M2 ect ) .... all good so far ...
1) When i nserte a multimbrale in the rack , when i create another output it automatically link it to the setero out 1 / 2 of the synth , is there a way to avoid this ?
2) IS there a way to create track within the rack (when i want to add a destinaton track it shows only those created ) it would be great to have like a track insert option assistant from there , is there any already or some smililar ?
Then after playng my pattern within maschine decide to dig into routing and organisation .
II created first a folder for drums , one for instruments ( have in ths one , wnd , 3 bass tracks and 3 bells tracks)
i then cretaed sub folder for basses and belles wthing INS (instruments folder)
I routed drums to a track name BEAT witch will be my drums bus , same for INS , also created tracks for BASS and BELLS (those will be my sub buss)
3) Am i understand well , no bus or some in waveform , each track can be waht ever you want t to be ?
Then i struggled to get the solo thing working as i wanted , even with the solo safe opton ...
Bascally i wanted when solo my BEAT bus to solo the Drums !!
I then descovered submix stuff via track nsert options , so tried it ... basically , it's like a folder , i'm able to solo a group , or a part and with my busses set to solo safe , i can now use it pretty well BUT i can solo a bus only by soloing the submix folder , is that the way it's supposed to work ?
So then i wanted to bounce / freeze investigate on this
I first wanted to freeze , but it said "nothing to freeze homie , no clip are here !!" i said ok , i inserted empty clip and tried !! i think if i remember well that it also didn't wanted to do some since my track were feeding other tracks ...
Any way i succeded freezing and then was surprised by what saw ...the track blanked and all ...
In sonar when i freeze , i have the clip / clips freezed , synths decharged , and can then start usng those clips to structure ect ...if wanted ..
Here , once freezed the on track /clip operation is dead , is it correct ?
Also , impossible to freeze all the tracks at once if i recall well
I then checked the temp folder to understand finally the thing ...
I decided to go render then ,after several try , i went for the render and replace current clip (to get rid of those empty clip i had to create ) , and then bypassed manually my maschine rack ....
And no way to render multiple tracks at once , it only proposes in that case a "mix" of those , is that correct ?
I then decided to go with aux/send stuff ... and i had to create a send to bus , insert an aux receive ect (nothing quiker ?) , but i then exeperienced delay time offset , due to the send ....after investigations i remember reading that send/aux in waveform are not delay compensed so we have to use the rack , exact ? is there a way to handle this right and fast ?
I will post the new stuff when come threw them , this was my yesturday testing .
Thks

Hi, I don't think you can stop the new output auto connecting to outputs 1 and 2 of the synth, but you can save the rack as a preset. You will still have to assign the tracks to outputs though.
If you feed tracks in to another track to use it as a buss you should be able to solo it with the solo button and hear all the tracks feeding it. I tested this in version 8.2.7 and it worked ok.
I don't use folder tracks and submix tracks as I don't like the way they freeze. It's better to use another track as a submix and freeze that with a freeze point plugin. Don't just freeze the track as that causes problems and makes controls like the fader and solo/mute buttons inaccessible. I prefer to use tags for organisation as you can add multiple tags to tracks and move around a project very quickly. You could give your drum buss 2 tags such such as "Buss" and "Drums" for example.
Unfortunately I don't think you can render multiple tracks at once without creating a mix. You would have to render tracks one by one but remember you will lose your plugins and synths if you replace the track. You could select all the clips on the track and render those, but then you will lose your midi clip. Better to render to another track or file.
Yes it's better to use racks as aux sends and returns. Use a "pass through" rack from the rack presets. There are instruction in the "Read me" plugin in the rack on how to use it as an aux send.
Hope that helps

Thks Agreen , i don't know if recall well but feeding a track and then soloing this track didn't made me hear the tracks feeding it .... my be a bug in my session gonna double check ...
IS there a way to simply record what the tracks are feed with ?

Yes. I can't post a screen grab at the minute, forum won't let me, but inside the rack, look to the top right of the rack "window", just to the left of the lock icon. Click the icon that looks like a rectangle with a kind of arrow or chevron in it.Jeezo wrote:2) IS there a way to create track within the rack (when i want to add a destinaton track it shows only those created ) it would be great to have like a track insert option assistant from there , is there any already or some smililar ?
That opens up the inputs and outputs section on the left and right of the rack. You'll see the tracks On the right hand side, click the + icon near the bottom right of the window, and you'll get a menu asking which track you want to add the rack to. You can also disconnect inputs, if you don't want inputs on certain tracks feeding into the rack, but you do want the output sound of the rack to sound on that track

Oh wait, actually create a new track that doesn't exist in the edit? No, not specifically in the plugin rack gui. But the T keyboard shortcut key creates a new track, and works with the plugin rack gui open, so hit that if you need, then continue doing whatever with the rack. Use the lock icon on the rack plugin gui, if you don't want that to disappear when you add the track.

Thks Chico , yep i used the + icon but only for exeisting track , they get connected by default to the first output of the synth , s there a way to disconnect them as default , i end up manually disconecting a mess with 16 outputs and inputs !!

No, don't think so.
Thinking about it though, if you add a rack to a new track with the outputs disconnected, you'd have no sound on that track, so you'd then have to manually connect that instance of the rack to the outputs you wanted. Which would take the same time as remapping them from the first outputs, because it's the same process ... is there a use case for adding a rack to a new track, with the outputs disconnected, beyond it looking nice in the gui?

You're right , by the way chico , i'm testing midi stuff , n the record midi option we can merge newly takes in the first one (by default) but when i choose overlay creating new clips , i don't hear the orginal midi clip during playback when recording , then after the take i hear both , am i missng somethng here ? how are we supposed to overdub without hearing the previuous stuff ?

Did I dream that Aux Send / Returns were OK to use vs racks? I've been using the Aux Send / Returns for sending tracks to a shared reverb and it seems to be working well. Perhaps I'm fooling myself because it's reverb and it's not noticeably being affected by the mentioned Aux Send / Return delay compensation issues?AGreen: Yes it's better to use racks as aux sends and returns. Yes aux sends introduce delay but they're fine for reverb as you only hear the wet reverb signal and that is delayed anyway in various ways. A parallel compressor using an aux send might produce phase artifacts however because of the delay.PierreG wrote:

Thanks for clarifying.AGreen Wrote: Yes aux sends introduce delay but they're fine for reverb as you only hear the wet reverb signal and that is delayed anyway in various ways. A parallel compressor using an aux send might produce phase artifacts however because of the delay.
Curious if this is also the case with other DAWs (Aux Send / Returns produce delay).

Just to update my finding , i do lose the solo tracks linked to a bus if i put them in folders ...that why it worked at on etime and then stopped working ...any work around ? Can t stay like that without the ability to put my numerous tracks at least organised in folders ...
Also if antbody knows how to overdub midi recording in loop with creation of takes mixed together in different clip , also please , how to record in a loop and being able to hit record without the playback being backec to start of the loop like a punch ( witch can t be done in loop mode
basically i want to hear my drum loop and when i m ready , i play my tom roll at the end , i enfae de record just before starting playing , but when i do so it stop and get back to start of the loop ...and record then ...
