is it possibile to have the notes of the selected scale colored in background in the midi editor?

or perhaps in the keyboard just at the right of the midi editor?
is it possibile?
also, when I press a key on the midi keyboard the note I am pressing is not shown in the keyboard in the midi editor..sometimes it is useful because the octave are different between the synth and waveform
thanks!

That's just for the midi pattern generator, I think Pi-e wants it at all time.

No, i want it in the classic midi editor also
.
Melody editor has function "all keys in scale" that is simillar (less flexible but nice for fast experimentation!)

There are four kinds of notes:
1. Scale notes
2. Chord notes that are in the scale
3. Chord notes that are not in the scale
4. Notes that are none of the above.
In the melody generator, chord notes are marked grey.
If you select "all notes in key", the scale notes will be grey INSTEAD.
Which means, the chord notes that are not in the scale aren't grey anymore.
It would be very handy if notes type 1-3 were marked in different colours.

You should never be able to get chord notes that aren't in the scale (At least with Waveform which major, minor, 7ths chords etc -- maybe there are more fancy chords we don't support that use non scale notes)
The notes are all grey because they are muted, once you unmute them, they show colour. I'm trying to think of a way to draw even muted notes with some colour.
I really like the idea of auto colour all notes and will try and implement if there is time.

7th chords contain notes that are not in the scale. A C7 contains Bb. A Cm7 contains Eb and Gb. And don't get me started on dim and aug chords. They always contain non-scale tones.FigBug wrote:You should never be able to get chord notes that aren't in the scale (At least with Waveform which major, minor, 7ths chords etc -- maybe there are more fancy chords we don't support that use non scale notes)

Cmin7 has Bb, Cmaj7 has only scale tones. The pattern generator will use the appropriate maj7 or min7 so that it only uses scale tones.

C7 is the regular 7th chord. Cmaj7 is much less used. It is true, however, that a V7 chord has only scale tones. That's the G7 in C major.
Anyway, it's when you use more unusual chords that you really need to keep track of which chord tones are not scale tones. So it would be very desirable to get help with that from the software.

thanks guys,
I dont know if I understood correctly, but basickly it would be handy to have all midi and audio tracks in the box on the right of the midi editor. So that we can put in background midi tracks too as well as audio tracks. They would be gray. This is just an idea..
In the list tracks there would be also a "scale track"(the global selected track), "chord track" so if we select them they will appear in background in the editor.
I dont know if it makes sense but the idea is that when I'm in the midi editor I would like to write notes and have all the information available(in background, other midi tracks, audio tracks, scale, chord) without leaving the midi editor.

I just added this to the latest Waveform Beta. In the Appearance Settings you can set colours for chord notes, scale notes, etc.
Then in the midi editor, set the note colour to the multi coloured swatch and they'll recolour as they move or the key/chord is changed etc.

You are the man! I dont remember you before Waveform 9 but your work is amazingly fast!
I hope that these fast changes wont break ergonomy or somethin like that but i love them so far, thank you!

I've been here since T3, then a bit of a break and back since T7
Maybe I misunderstood, I coloured the notes, would people rather of had the background lines coloured?
