I have a HP Spectre that runs Windows 10 (64) with a NVIDIA graphics card in it and i7 processor. The audio drivers use RealTek. Downloaded ASIO4all and followed all instructions. Have tried resetting my computer 3 times to get this software to work properly. Have also tried hooking up M-Audio Mobile Pre. Can’t even get a test sound. Do I need to buy a new audio interface.
I am not a computer savvy person. I need plain English instructions on what to do. I have had consistent issues with DAW software. I also own Pro Tools and couldn’t ever get that to run right either. Every time windows did an update it messed Pro Tools up.
Have contacted support. They aren’t much help. Telling some one who states they are not computer savvy to just play around with stuff until something works is like asking a newborn baby to brush his or her teeth. Yes, unfortunately I am that computer illiterate.
Again, I need someone with patience and able to speak to me in terms and phrases that I can understand.
I keep getting an error that RealTek isn’t connecting with Waveform.
I’m so confused and frustrated. Please help. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Right now I use GarageBand and Cubasis on my iPad Pro to write, but there is only so much CPU allowed. I am familiar with working with DAW systems I just can’t get them set up to run right on my PC’s.
My heart is set on getting Waveform to run. I need someone who can speak plain, easy to understand instructions to me. If you are kind, patient and empathetic to people new to setting up DAW on PC, like me (I just want to write music, not spend weeks wasting my time trying to figure out how to set up DAW software), the please so kindly get back with me. I could really use your help.

I feel with you, I used to be an IT supporter for offices and helped a lot of people, but this was in German language.
My serious thought here,
in business there is not a thing like a free lunch. Everything is being calculated.
If you lack that computer-savvyness, you'll have to pay for professional support, or you need dear friendships in real life with skilled people who can help you out. Or you diligently study these things yourself.
Someone who sits with you for a couple of hours, and together you work out a number of issues, so you can see how one is getting things done.
Good luck, and don't ever give up!

Well, in the least, here is a screenshot of correct settings for Tracktion, RealTek and ASIO4ALL,
in case that helps. I have similar hardware, even though I don't use it, as I have a dedicated interface.
Click the control panel button and then the wrench in ASIO4ALL to see everything...
You probably don't need as high a sample rate, or as small of a buffer. This setup
routes audio out of speakers plugged directly into the RealTek card.

To compare, in my power-notebook, ASIO 4 all does not work at all (pun intended, LOL, claims some incompatibility), but it has an old Realtek chip.
I have to use "Windows Audio (Exclusive Mode)" for output to "Speaker (Realtek High Definition Audio w/ EC)",
and then I can select sample rates 44100, 48000, 96000, and many buffer sizes from 132 samples to 2048 samples.
The lower buffer sizes have bad glitches in the audio result, so I use 1920 samples at 48000, 24bit export, which so far yields good results for me.
(I am not recording with this system, and no MIDI at all, just mixing WAV tracks produced elsewhere.)
FYI on a different level,
using 48000 to play the mix and to render, it means that for some mixes there is auto-SRC being used internally, when recorded tracks are 44100, and then finally I use the free r8brain SRC to convert to 44100/16 for CD burning.
48000 is proven to sound better than 44100, with the plugins that I use. The system is too weak for 96000.
This yields me a noise factor of -40 to -60 db, which in my case seems tolerable (doing pop, not jazz or classic). There is no audible spectral distortion, which is great. Internal SRC in many cheap systems is poor and ruins the sound, which I was able to avoid. Tracktion does this well enough.

One thing you might want to try, which might be easier than trying to get ASIO4ALL working ...
Install the demo version of FL Studio - https://www.image-line.com/downloads/fl ... nload.html
This will also install an audio driver called FL Studio ASIO on your laptop, which you can use in Waveform.
This seems to perform better than the default Realtek (and similar) drivers.
In Waveform, go to the Settings page / Audio Devices tab, and set "Audio Device Type" to "ASIO" and "Device" to "FL Studio ASIO"
