Were these points meant as jokes? In case they aren't... well, I better don't tell you then how much clueless I think you'd be.TonyVanDam wrote: 1)At least half of Logic users are also Pro-tools users.
2)Most Cubase users stay with Cubase. The rest would leave to become new Sonar or Logic users.
3)DP users are still DP users.
So let's just hope you were joking.

Erm ... is that a fact? I find it hard to believe that Pro Tools has that market share, although I understand that there are "lite" versions bundled with soundcards, etc. In fact so far as I know Pro Tools is usually a "bundled" software with hardware products/studio installations. Whereas Cubase, Sonar and Logic have sold by the truck-load in their own right...TonyVanDam wrote: Thank you for being serious.![]()
If the big 3 titles (Sonar, Logic, Cubase) is more a reality, then how does Pro-Tools (with a market bigger than the big 3) get put out of the picture?![]()
That a serious question that may never get answered.
Anyway, when you read in the press about the "Big 3", they sometimes mention both Pro Tools and Digital Performer in the same breath. But because three of these ive products are Mac only, this alone limits their use to less than 10% of computer users worldwide... and between them they are fighting to share that specialised Mac userbase.
The whole idea of "bundling" has obviously been taken up by Mackie with Tracktion, and it will obviously be interesting to see where that lead with T2.
But as I said before, while I use Traction myself, I don;t think labelling it one of the "Big 4" helps anyone. It is a very different product, aimed at a different market (at least as of v.1).

Labelling anything as part of th "Big 4" or whatever doesn't help anyone or anything.
It just makes people think they are using inferior tools if they don't chhose a "big one" and thats just bollocks. If you have a tool that does what you want, and it serves its purpose, then what more do you need.
People seem to need approval for what they use and why they use it.
Why is this? If people genuinely get taken seriously based on what software they use, then thats a really sad indication of the state of play.
I'm glad i don't give a shit what people think, its a pain in the ass if you do!

I don't really know what CM's criteria for this list is, but how the hell can they not include ProTools?? I don't think it's a stretch to say that PT is at the center of almost every major release these days.

But 1) is the honest to goodness truth. Logic has been design very well to work with Pro-Tool. Where have you been?

No - where have YOU been?!?TonyVanDam wrote: But 1) is the honest to goodness truth. Logic has been design very well to work with Pro-Tool. Where have you been?
There's a LOT of Logic users working natively or with other outboard solutions than PT, realising how overexpensive Digidesign stuff is. A lot of former PT users are ditching their rigs as well.
After all, I'd say that these days the amount of PT users among Logic users wouldn't be any higher than, say, 20% at best - but most likely it's WAY less.
