Is all this really necessary ? (no other tabs open, only KVR and specifically when I went to download one of my patch banks from the Banks and Patches area).

Scripts can also interfere with the computer's sound.

Yeah, you most likely get DPC latency spikes doing those things. Can depend on a number of things...
