I didn't bother installing the beta and I was wondering what are your thoughts on it
Now they've put a date down I'm tossing up if i should take the plunge based on the fact that:
I rarely use the arrangement view
I dont need a waveshaper or a new delay
have no use for multi note editing
I dont mix in Ableton
Ive gotten used to living without m4l
dont need a drum synth or drum bus
dont need to export mp3
dont work with group tracks
Also, most of the workflow refinements tend to be in arrangement which I only use for bouncing, but in all honesty I dont find it that limiting.
My biggest concern is stability. I'm in the middle of doing a lot of shit and dont have time for trouble shooting..literally and I cant afford to lose any of my drum or instrument racks or have to reinitialize my sample folders and that would be the worst thing... loading up a song that's missing files.

I rally wanted to try the beta build before the promotional upgrade offer expires but it crashes on startup on my Win 10 machine
I reported the bug a few days ago but there's been no response yet.

Install the beta, think for yourself instead of being lazy and expecting other people to do it for you.Kinh wrote:I didn't bother installing the beta and I was wondering what are your thoughts on it

How about not making comments if you're not helping at all?whyterabbyt wrote:Install the beta, think for yourself instead of being lazy and expecting other people to do it for you.Kinh wrote:I didn't bother installing the beta and I was wondering what are your thoughts on it
I'm also interested in Live 10 performance, but not going to beta-test software I still pay 200 euro for.

How about you apply that to the OP first. If he wants help, he shouldnt be making a habit of being a dick to other people asking for it.DJ Warmonger wrote:How about not making comments if you're not helping at all?whyterabbyt wrote:Install the beta, think for yourself instead of being lazy and expecting other people to do it for you.Kinh wrote:I didn't bother installing the beta and I was wondering what are your thoughts on it

Based on the above - NO. There's no improvements in Session View (other than dual pan on Mixer), no improved performance or stability.Kinh wrote:I rarely use the arrangement view

Not sure either if I upgrade now, maybe I'll wait for the next discount.Kinh wrote:I didn't bother installing the beta and I was wondering what are your thoughts on it

Those new features are nice to have but in no way essential for me - I did a lot of stuff without, and without even noticing 'missing features' (like multi note editing).
If I would have had all those features before, it wouldn't have made any difference for the albums I produced.
Also I don't need a new synth or new effects, I already have more than enough (and the really good stuff like U-he and Soundtoys).
So 200 euros is definetively to much for me right now, I have to go for a new PC system first.

I think if you are an Ableton power user who uses most of its functionality you will really appreciate the update. If not, than the update might seem too incremental to you. The native M4L integration is a game changer for me personally, but if you are not interested in M4L than this is somewhat moot.
The most recent beta seems a lot snappier. There have been some very noticeable performance improvements, at least that is the way I experience it. On my system (Macnook Pro with latest MacOS), Live 10 beta now performs much better than Live 9. I also have not seen any stability issues. Live 10 has not crashed on me once (Live 9 does once in a while). Also, converting my Live 9 projects over to Live 10 has been without any issues whatsoever so far.

I've never been a fan of Live's Arrangement View. That's why I've always used other DAW's in conjunction with Live. That being said, the Live 10 beta is most definitely a step in the right direction. The under the hood improvements and workflow enhancements in the Arrangement View make Live a much more enjoyable experience. Wavetable synths are a dime a dozen now, but Ableton did a really good job with this one. I also really like the new audio effects. If you are a Push 2 user, you will love the firmware update. Having the spectrum analyzers and other interfaces viewable on the Push is a really nice touch. Live 9 went through a tremendous amount of updates and free added features over the last 5 years. I'm hoping that this will be the case with Live 10, but even if it isn't, I think the update is DEFINITELY worth it.
Just my $.02.
Just my $.02.

I tried to go back to using 9 for a bit, lasted about 10 minutes. Then again, I am a heavy user of the arrangement view. The snap behaviour of the envelope breakpoints and the envelope toggle button are a godsend.

Personally, I think its useful to get feedback from people who are actively using software "in production" for a time and i think its perfectly reasonable for someone to ask for feedback. Calling someone lazy for seeking feedback is a pretty arrogant reaction in my book.whyterabbyt wrote:Install the beta, think for yourself instead of being lazy and expecting other people to do it for you.Kinh wrote:I didn't bother installing the beta and I was wondering what are your thoughts on it

Loving 9 even more ... 10 introduced tiny fonts that are a headache to read on a 28' screen.
Certainly won't be upgrading till they fix that.

Hello
In my opinion update is not worth 200 euros.
here is my reasons: No comping ability, no ability to edit multiple clips at once, like fades, cut etc...
next, i don't need new synths, or plugins, i mean they are nice, but u probably don't use new wavetable, when u have Serum, or Massive, and distortion plugins, when everybody using Saturn or Trash, or their favorite distortion, or echo, or something.
One plus is integrated Max4live, but i don't used to it since Live, it was very buggy and CPU hog.
VST3 support still missing.
MPE missing
Piano roll is still weak,
No Freeze for Groups.( ye ye u can do it with re-sampling to one channel but u know)
Etc.etc.etc
Try beta u will sew if it fits u for 200 Euros, in my country is lot of money.
Sorry for my poor English
Sincerely
Jakub

Made it a bit more poetic.Kinh wrote:I rarely use the arrangement view
I need nor a waveshaper nor delay do.
Have no use for multi note editing
I dont mix in Ableton for track leveling.
Ive gotten used to living without m4l
dont need no damn drum synth or drum bus, hell!
dont need to export mp3
or work with group tracks you see.
So are people happy with the Ableton beta
or shall I save my money for a goniometer?
