Revalver has been doing that for more than a decade....

Yep. Sounds great and only 99 bucks.

I'm dying to know what the community in general thinks of this one.

I use Revalver and it does sound pretty good. I often use the amps in it in addition to TSE and Kazrog with some random IRs.

So you can really create your own Frankenstein Monster amp with this thing.

AFAIK There is nothing out there currently like the ‘reaktor of tube amp simulations’. Revalver (which has great peavy amp sims), bias and axe all give you tweakable options (axe being the deepest) but you couldn’t do something like make a new type of tube or change the fundamental behaviour of the amp. More like a blocks ensemble.

It’s far easier to find a sim of a Frankenstein amp that someone has already programmed.

From what I can tell, Axe is only hardware as of now.

Yeah, and chances of it going into plugin form are extremely low.

I trust your opinion a lot. What do you think is the most "versatile" and best sounding amp sim out there in VST form?

I'm pretty much using Kazrog these days. Feels great playing through them, Shane nailed the pick attack response and dynamics. You can't build your own amp using his plugins, but you don't need to.

Also Mercuriall is pretty great, but their price-per-amp ratio is atrocious...

Thanks. Yeah, I'm pretty much looking for something where I can create just about any amp I can think of, within reason. Doesn't need to be Reaktor level but something like Bias Amp 2 but just better made.

Are you looking to sell amp models?

Can't really go wrong with Revalver then. It's the only thing that's comparable that I know of. Plus it doesn't have a shit-coded GUI.

No, not at all. It's just that I like getting as many different guitar tones as I can out of an amp sim. I have found both Guitar Rig 5 and Amplitube 4, which are the only ones that I own, to be limited. Eventually, you've really heard it all. So I guess I'm looking for a modular based amp sim or something as close to it as possible.

Well .. the modular part of guitar sounds is matching pickups, pre/post effects, amp sims, cab sims and IRs in your chain.

Maybe you are more after using something like MUX modular and various VSTs. There are a ton of freeware VST pedals and amp/cab sims, not to mention excellent IRs to last you months of not years of tinkering.

Revalver also lets you insert your own VST effects and has a parallel amp chain built in .. also a nice option.
