Can Destructor do anything that Axiom can't do?

Does Axiom have ALL of the features of Destructor?

I already own Late Replies and I'm very interested in Axiom.

Should I just wait for Axiom to be released?
Is there any advantage at all that Destructor has over Axiom?

Post

Sorry for the late reply... Blue Cat Audio is still in LA right now... We'll be faster on the forum when back at the office!

Destructor and Axiom are actually two different beasts, that are fully compatible: Destructor is a general purpose distortion / amp sim / non-linear processing plug-in that can simulate any kind of distortion or compression. Axiom is a guitar (and bass)-oriented multi effects processor and amp-simulation plug-in.

Axiom's amp sim section is indeed based on Destructor, and it also includes Destructor as a built-in plug-in that you can instantiate anywhere inside of Axiom. All presets made with Destructor are of course available for use in Axiom. We have just streamlined the factory presets a little bit so that it is more guitarist and bassist-friendly (but you could still import them from Destructor if you wish).

So strictly speaking you could indeed use Axiom as a simple distortion unit and do the same things as with Destructor since it is built-in, but it will not be as straightforward as instantiating Destructor in your DAW, if you just need a bit of distortion or non-linear mojo.

Anyway, we'll provide crossgrade offers as well as a package that also includes Destructor as an independent plug-in. And we'll keep updating both to keep them in sync in the future.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the detailed reply! Sounds great!

As for as crossgrade/upgrade offers:
I know you can't give exact pricing yet, but can you reveal if owners of BOTH Late Replies and Destructor will get more of a discount than a customer who owns only one or the other?

+1 for this

Here's hoping they will be nice to the loyal customers/fanboys. :D

Mmmm... As a bit of constructive criticism, perhaps you made too many videos of Destructor used on guitar, which obscure that it has a wider use.
If you wish to reduce confusion between D and A, as in the question above, perhaps you should make some videos of different uses for D?
Or perhaps just a good video on how they are different!

About upgrade paths, we'll indeed do our best to make existing customers as happy as we can, as usual! :)

We will probably do some more videos about Destructor and Axiom in the future, when Axiom is actually released!

About Destructor's general purpose abilities, you can for example check the non-guitar presets to see what it can do! There are also a few videos available:

Thanks, I had forgotten about these!

Yeah, thanks for those YouTube links. Will watch later.

I want to do an experiment to see if I can get Destructor to closely mimic a highly regarded tape sim plugin. A new thread might be forthcoming if I’m successful. :)

Looking forward to it!
