MIDI from USB will not record in Waveform

I love Waveform, and I have had very little trouble with it. But now I have seen my first issue. I use a MIDI drum controller to record drums. I prefer to connect it to my computer with the USB cable. Everything works fine, I can tap the drum controller, I see data coming into Waveform and I can hear the output from EZDrummer on that channel playing. When I try to record anything, it seems to be working but when I stop recording to look at the data there is NOTHING there.
When I then connect the drum controller to my interface's MIDI input, and set up Waveform to record from that input it works as before- EXCEPT there is data recorded. The only thing I changed is that input.
When I try to record from the drum controller in Tracktion 7 everything works as it should. But in Waveform, it does not. As far as I can see, I have all the settings the same. Am I missing something, or is this an issue?
I am hoping that when I get Waveform 9 this will go away.

Do you have "Record MPE to Note Expression" enabled for your midi input? Try disabling it.

That did it! Thank you so much.
