nope. Its not like ive got anything to gain/lose whatever.VitaminD wrote: might your affiliation with synapse as a lead beta tester (and even thanked in the credits page) be bluring reality?
Rich would deal with an 'overly buggy' app if he could, but the 'bugs' are not reperted, or are down to 3rd party coding usually.VitaminD wrote: I love orion too though.. even if it is buggy.. and it is overly buggy.. I just wish Rich would admit to it and maybe deal with it.
Erm, that is what the testers do, they all have very diff systems.VitaminD wrote:
If you really want to beta test and have a program debugged.. maybe it would be a good thing to look at those computers and setups that are having major problems and definitively find out the exact cause of the crashing (be it host, plugin, OS etc) ..instead of completely denying its entirely the host's fault from the getgo.

I still like it better than anything else I have on my PC... But not because of it's deep features, instruments, or whatever... I just like the way it inspires creativity when it comes to composing music... Simple enough to be fast, but powerful enough to get good results! You got your mixer, your instruments, and your playlist... What else do you need?

If the people who responded to the poll hadn't tried it out, then why in the world would they "believe" it to be buggy? It's not impossible, but not likely that people would simply "decide" that it's buggy or stable without having some experience with it. Only people who have an agenda, would do something like that. Nobody wakes up one day, chooses a randome application, and starts to say it's crap or great. It's not reasonable to think so.Kriminal wrote:Must be true thenTeeLangSun wrote: Even CM has stated it once![]()
Beleived it yes, but how many were actually users who had tried?TeeLangSun wrote:In a poll here on KVR most readers believed that Orion was buggy.
Ive been using it for years with little or no probs in the full versions, and my old PC was a pile of crap.

Cos they [rob read one post here of someone saying it was buggy, not diff to work out. doesnt matter anyway, the thread was started to try to help ppl, but it seems they dont want it, so i wont bother in future.TeeLangSun wrote:If the people who responded to the poll hadn't tried it out, then why in the world would they "believe" it to be buggy? is there something here in this topic to use for fixing buggy orion song files? or am i missing the point in this topic? well, a utility to debug would be nice, i get buggy tunes occasionally, and i figure it's because i'm dropping freebie dll's in and deleting them all the time, moving stuff around. treating my orion program file like a fleamarketer's garage. maybe i don't need a debugger....maybe i need better computer-geek habits.
i'd rather have a mullet than a comb-over.
fortunately, i have neither.

You said you've been using the DEMO since version 1. Perhaps it's a different beast than the FULL VERSION?Kriminal wrote:Used the demo for quite some time here, afrom V1, never had a prob, so it must be your PC.Teksonik wrote:Just to give an example. I recently purchased a license for Discovery 2. I worked with it in FL Studio for several hours and for some reason decided to try it in Orion(latest release version). I loaded Discovery, went to load a patch bank and boom crash.Less than thirty seconds. Plugin's fault or Host's? I've been using Discovery for hours on end in FL since and not one problem. I agree that Orion is much more stable in the later versions than before but it still remains the most unstable app I own. Sorry I've had enough let's all three go down to pub and raise a few.BONES wrote:Interestingly, the one song that I repeatedly had problems with recently fixed itself when I replaced three other VSTi with little killerz. That tends to indicate to me that it was definitely somethig to do with one of the plugins. I had always put it down to using beta versions but this song is now bulletproof, just like the other couple of hundred ORION project files I have.
I know that lots of people have problems with stability but I sincerely do not get it as, since about version 2, it has always been incredibly reliable for me. Way more reliable that FL was at the same time, despite it having been around for about 5 times longer. I'm sure Fruity is more stable now and I know that 99% of the users who have had problems in the past now find ORION to be pretty solid, since version 5.1 or so.
Nothing wrong with my PC. Rock solid here...as long as I don't run Orion.

I've had FL crashes toobluedad wrote:I've had a number of songs not load; and some crashes with FL. I know that makes me a small minority.
I've had the same problem with Orion (but not lately)
and considering how fast I can work with Orion, I'll take my chances with it.
good luck with FL Tek, we know you're a fanboy now
oddly enough I don't have any orion files that won't load
increasing my RAM took care of the one problem I had
but I think the theory that some vsts are dodgy does hold some water
I believe this because every single time I use EVE
in it Orion stops responding when I try to remove it or close the project.
perhaps Orion loves EVE so much
it just doesn't wanna let go....
fogot to mention
one of my FL crashes involved EVE

well okay.. but how many posts have you made about orion that have pointed out a bug or flaw vs. the 'its great and solid' posts? just APPEARS to be heavily in favor of orion.. even if its not.Kriminal wrote:nope. thats untrue.. I've reported a couple.. hes told me its the plugins fault.. but the plugins in question only act that way in orion... which leads me to believe its orion's handling.Kriminal wrote:Rich would deal with an 'overly buggy' app if he could, but the 'bugs' are not reperted, or are down to 3rd party coding usually.VitaminD wrote: I love orion too though.. even if it is buggy.. and it is overly buggy.. no no.. thats not at all what I was suggesting..Kriminal wrote:Erm, that is what the testers do, they all have very diff systems.VitaminD wrote:

what I AM suggesting is to have some of those people with systems (outside of the current beta team) that are having serious problems with either the host in general, or with the specific plugins in orion.. and pinpoint exactly what is causing the problem.. have a debug version of orion where it automatically dumps a txt listing what was loaded, system specs, time, etc.. could be helpful!

Actually now that I've given it some thought I started this flamewar and hijacked the thread with my "I don't think it's the plugins that are dodgy" comment. I still hold that it's true but Krim was just trying to help those who are suffering from broken songs in Orion. For that I apologise. What the hell am I doing arguing about an app I don't even use anymore? I'm out.

Krim, please just put the original subject and post back (or something like them)
It is a worthwhile digression for people to mention that Orion crashes, even with plugins that do not crash other hosts
There are code-review tools available to point out memory-allocation errors, and it might be worth Rich's time also to locate or write a VST-verification tool or function loop that can identify plugins that do not follow the standard
Additionally, it might be a good investment for RH to provide Orion licenses to the major VST companies, e.g., NI, for testing purposes
On the positive side, during the last major upgrade I did have two pieces that were buggy, sent them to Rich and he identified the problem and had it fixed in a day or two

It MUST be the VST's...Reason hasn't crashed on me ever...in 3 years.
I guess no VST's, no crashing.
