I have a lot of research to do, but what would you recommend for someone who doesn't own any sonokinetic stuff? How easy is it to integrate into compositions? I've never used these types of "phrase libraries" before and unsure if they will be flexible enough for me as I like writing my parts, but at the same time I like the idea of inspiring background phrases or more realistic rhythmic parts, etc. I also worry with libraries like these, that the phrases become identifiable and it sounds like you are copying someone else, especially on music thats put on albums, etc.mgw38 wrote:Noir is not part of the bundle, unfortunately. That would have pushed me over the edge, I think. But I already own too many of the titles to make the bundle worthwhile. Might pick up Grosso. I left that on the table during the Christmas sale.dzilizzi wrote:Well this sucks. The 85% off includes most of what I already own. All single libraries are 50%off.

Not sure if I am the best person to answer this question but I'll give it a try.InsertNameHere wrote:I have a lot of research to do, but what would you recommend for someone who doesn't own any sonokinetic stuff? The phrase libraries are primarily meant for scoring and they are astonishingly flexible for that. Every film composer uses phrases in one way or the other so there is no need to worry about being Sonokinetic-identifiable if you write a score with these libraries. Anything done with these libraries will have the feel of a score though. In theory, phrases with a 4/4 meter should be more applicable to music production just because almost all popular music follows a 4/4 meter. And they are, to some extent. You get a good sense about this if you listen to the demos.
But not everything Sonokinetic does is phrase based. They also have outstanding other libraries you might want to look at. In the end it comes down to what you plan to do with them. If you are writing scores, this is the time to get all of them. If you are more of a music producer it depends a bit on how much you can invest in something that is a bit out of the ordinary.

Although they are phrase libraries, you can make them your own by the chords you use and the combinations of phrases. You can also stagger the starts of the phrases to give it a different sound. Plus you can drag and drop the midi into your DAW for use with other instruments or to beef up the sound with your own strings/winds/brass.InsertNameHere wrote:I have a lot of research to do, but what would you recommend for someone who doesn't own any sonokinetic stuff? I would run through the different library tutorials where they run through the phrases to get an idea of what is available and maybe what will work for you. Also the Ostinato Strings and Brass are always useful if you do classical or film/game music. I've read many posts online about how it is hard to manually program ostinato phrases and something like this makes it really easy.
Personally? I like the Capriccio as a basic library. But others use Sotto or Grosso more. I guess it depends on what you are going to do with it. The Bundle is great because you get a good mix of the basic libraries, some of the funky fun ones, the Ostinatos, Tutti Vox (the choir), Da Capo (the orchestra - not a phrase library) and the woodwinds (not a phrase library) If I didn't have most of the stuff in it? I would grab it. It is a great deal if you can afford it.

Regardless of what I already have there are at least three bigger libraries in that bundle that I would most likely purchase some time in the not too distant future. Oh crap,...dzilizzi wrote:If I didn't have most of the stuff in it? I would grab it. It is a great deal if you can afford it.

For me? It really is only Da Capo and some of the smaller things. I have Soundiron's Mars & Venus, so the Tutti Vox isn't really useful. I have all the phrase libraries but Tutti, which isn't in the bundle.mgw38 wrote:Regardless of what I already have there are at least three bigger libraries in that bundle that I would most likely purchase some time in the not too distant future. The question I have is whether the Woodwinds is the extended or standard in the bundle. The price on the individual one looks like the extended version. I think it has more runs and articulations. Frankly, if you want more than 2 of the higher priced items in the bundle, it would totally be worth getting it.

Not sure where to put this, but wanted to point out Positive Grid is having a Presidents’ Day sale. Their stuff can be a little pricey so now is a good time to buy in. I normally don’t go for plugins with such large resource files but these plugs sound really good to my ears so I bought a suite of juicy dynamics that covers all my needs.

I sprang for the big bundle and Woodwinds shows as Extended. I already have it in what is now my other Sonokinetic account (as my NI email address is different) so I haven't redownloaded it but it looks as though it includes the 16 and 24bit extended samples in addition to the standard package.dzilizzi wrote:The question I have is whether the Woodwinds is the extended or standard in the bundle. So that really makes the bundle really worthwhile. I think in the Christmas sales, I paid about $198 for the extended when they had it at 60% off.Gamma-UT wrote:I sprang for the big bundle and Woodwinds shows as Extended. You can combine your Sonokinetic accounts - there is a link at the top of the product list.

Thanks. To be honest, I'll probably keep it the way it is as a couple of the products are dupes, plus I've got split accounts at a couple of other places – but I've got records of what's where.dzilizzi wrote:You can combine your Sonokinetic accounts - there is a link at the top of the product list.

There's a couple places I should have done that at. I have 2 licenses for Addictive Keys Grand (one was free) and the account only shows the one. If I did it to a second account I could use it on more computers.Gamma-UT wrote:Thanks.
