so hopefully my reported Z3ta 2 backwards compatibility bugs/crashs will be fixed eventually ;)

Post

great news - I started on Cakewalk when it came on a floppy disc, haven't used it for years but am glad to see the name get another chance

Post

Good news, I don't use Cakewalk anymore but they definitely deserve to be developed. I wonder what will happen to the current licence owners.

Sonar may be revived, not sure if anyone's existing license is guaranteed to be....
FAQ wrote:I’m an existing or old SONAR user and have questions about my old account or subscription or want a refund.

BandLab Technologies did not acquire the operating company of Cakewalk Inc., only the complete set of intellectual property, patents, trademarks and certain assets necessary or related to the entire Cakewalk product suite.

I don't know what to make of this... will they be employing the Cakewalk developers also then? Sounds to me as if they will go on developing Cakewalk's products themselves.

Oh, wait, they actually stated that in the FAQ's:
Will anyone from the original Cakewalk development team be joining BandLab?

Absolutely. More details will be shared soon.

Great news
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

So a developer of a 100% online DAW acquires the knowledge/code of an offline DAW. I don't know what to think of this. Not very sure that Sonar will be revived from what it was though. Might become a completely different beast. Might not even be revived at all.
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

May be they were looking to get into the offline DAW market and see this as a chance to get a head start with the code and the prestige of the brand name?

I suspected as much - Cakewalk are too many good products to disappear for good.

But is it just some plugins/synths - or Sonar as well?

Thanks for the tip.

I think its more like 'a congolomerate of brands which includes the developer of a 100% online DAW acquires the knowledge/code and development staff of an offline DAW.

BandLab Technologies is a collective of global music brands with a vision to connect the world of music.
.
.
.
Headquartered in Singapore, other notable brands within the portfolio include Harmony, the world’s most cherished brand in musical instruments since 1892, MONO, the leading design-driven brand in products for the modern musician, Rolling Stone, the world’s leading voice in pop culture and music since 1967, and Swee Lee Music, Asia’s leading online retailer and distributor of musical instruments and pro-audio brands.

I guess its fair to say that they're not companies that will be that well known in Europe/US, but that's not intrinsically a bad thing.

And hey, free advertising in Rolling Stone.... ;)

I wonder how popular online DAW's really are. Not much of a fuss about them, is there?
