Maybe I misunderstood, I coloured the notes, would people rather of had the background lines coloured?
It is more traditional, easiest solution. I like the idea with chord notes but it can ne too much fore some users maybe. Another posibility just to colour lines as you propose would be alo nice

I think colured backgrund is better. Because then you see where the different note types are before you enter a note.

Then in the midi editor, set the note colour to the multi coloured swatch and they'll recolour as they move or the key/chord is changed etc.
Hmm.. this doesn't seem to work. There are now two red swatches but the last one cretes black notes. Was it that one that was supposed to create the different coloured notes?

Ahh.. found the solution, quite by accident. You have to specify the note colous in the settings page first.

WOW! This is just super. Here we see how a Dmaj7 chord looks in an E minor clip.
May I make another suggestion?
Wouldn't it be handy if the chord name was displayed in the midi editor, after the bar number?

Are you using the pattern generator to generate these notes or entering them manually? When you do use the pattern generator, are you using the chord track or entering the chords into the clip?

The reason you were seeing black notes is I forget to set default colours, that'll be fixed in next build.

I used the chord generator with some custom chords, to create the grey notes. Then I painted in the notes in the Dmaj7 chord and the E minor scale, just to show off the colours.
By the way, I forgot to paint in any non-chord, non-scale notes. I made them blue, like in ”blue notes”. I suggest these colours as default. It makes the non scale chord notes stand out, which is good, as they require extra attention.

I might have changed my mind here.
Maybe coloured notes is better. It makes the actual notes stand out more.

Are there some news about the backround colours???

I really would like to see some indicators in the backround to see, what notes belong to the chosen scale...

In 9.0.37, there will be an option to make the grid lines in midi editor to follow the key. It should go to public beta in the next week or so.

That sounds great, but tbh I cannot follow you exactly here...
What means "follow the key"???

Does it mean that it indicates the notes that are in the chosen scale???

What about making the root note stand out more?
It took me time before i realized that these dark lines are not black keys but the scale ;)
