I reckon it's more to do with the name being extracted from the plug-in file. However, you could put the plug-in into a rack and give that whatever name you wish.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Do you want to be able to rename your plugins in settings so they always have a different name?
Or do you want to rename them after you added them to a track, so the same plugin can have different names depending on what it's used for?

Some plugins got such a silly name, that it would be helpful to be able to rename it completely in the settings...
The second option comes in handy as well... i.e. if you setup a rack in the new stack view as i.e. a channel strip, it would be easier to see:
Stereo/Mono
EQ
Low Cut
Compressor
Transient
Clipper
Saturator...
than:
HoRNetTrackUtilityMKII
Fabfilter Pro-Q2
bx_Subfilter
Fabfilter Pro-C2
Smack Attack Stereo
GClip
HoRNetTape...
If I could choose only one option, I think I would prefer to be able to rename the plugin instances...

I agree, since Waveform/Tracktion is fairly unique in that the left to right workflow of the interface means that the space a plugin name takes up actually matters. (Especially when the name is some long concatenated nightmare like SuperCompressorUnlimited_x64 that can't even take advantage of wrapping.)

Agreed, especially in the right hand mixer panel, where icons gets smaller and smaller the more you add (and don´t increase the width) long plugin names become quickly unreadable...

You don't have to make a rack for a plugin, just make it a preset. That way you can not only rename it and add tags and patch notes, but also save it in the default state you want (eg it might be a particular patch you want to startup in, or things like Multithreading on in u-he plugins)Trancit wrote:Yes, of course... but making a rack for each plugin is a bit overdone, isn´t it...
Rightclick - save selected plugins as preset
