Magix had previously sent us an email stating that it will not get a free upgrade to SF Pro 12. However, we are double-checking with them about it.

-edit-

Magix confirmed that the Sound Forge Pro 11 that is included with the Samplitude Pro X3 Bundle does NOT get a free upgrade to Sound Forge Pro 12.

So with my $25 voucher, I can get Zip for $75.

Seems like I could probably wait until Black Friday this year? Don't need it that badly. :D

I'd rather pay that kind of price for SpecOps.

Noticed the Humble Bundle deal being mentioned here and had a look. Only really interested in Sound Forge Pro, having used a predecessor many years ago as a sample editor for my EMU E4K and later the emagic PC version of Logic. Does this really add much that I can't already do with Ableton 10 or any other DAW as it seems that audio editing within programs has evolved considerably since my Logic days and was wondering if this adds any additional utility to what I already own?

I usually get a $75 monthly voucher from Plugin Alliance (PA). This month they have given me a $25 monthly voucher. Anybody else have this 'problem'? I wrote to PA but have received no reply.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

VOUCHERS... let’s talk HERE please.
I can’t follow all the different threads.
I’ll start with some replies and will update if I stumble across more questions you guys may have
Here goes:
- We have calculated the March vouchers based on what users spent in the past 12 months (US$, not plugin count)
- this is something we have promoted for a while, but we found there was a serious bug in our system for a while giving vouchers based on life time spend
- some people were receiving vouchers ‘forever’ because they once bought a few plugins some years (!) ago
- I hope you understand that we can’t just give vouchers forever as there are people who received more in vouchers than they ever spent with us
- vouchers have been sold, shared etc in forums and we will make sure we limit the use of the vouchers to certain user accounts in the future
- PickPack vs Vouchers: there is no conspiracy here. We worked on PickPack for a year, now we are working on the voucher system, so the timing is just a logical consequence of the order of our web projects

Hope this helps to clearify some questions.
Dirk.

It was mentioned earlier in this thread, but the bottom line is that Plugin Alliance is now basing the voucher values on how much you've spent in the last year instead of total spend. The announcement was made in a private group on Facebook (Plugin Alliance Audiophiles) by Dirk Ulrich yesterday.

I think PA has got a bit of a problem on their hands. I entered the PA universe in part due to great sales, vouchers and an expanding catalog that was equal to or better than most of their often more expensive competitors. I bought a lot of plugins from them. No doubt they had rapid growth but now they are trying to change their pricing/profit models after I have most of the best of what they have to offer. There isn't enough compelling material remaining in the catalog at the prices they are charging to make me open my wallet. I bet I am not alone and they are going to discover the hard truth very quickly in the next few months.

I do understand, but then given the vouchers and extreme discounting, it was unlikely we were going to end up spending more really

Yeah, agree mostly. Although I think this is largely a move to make their PickPack look more attractive, so *if* they can get enough new PA converts with that, they might be doing well.
A well-behaved signature.

I had the same question cross my mind but then I saw that Music Maker EDM Edition is also in the bundle. So never mind the Sound Forge, is it now good time to pick up Music Maker EDM Edition? How does it compare to other EDM oriented DAWs like Fruityloops?
No signature here!

I'm biased because I've used SF for a long long time and it's the most important tool for what I do, but nothing I've used comes near to the workflow of SF for me but that's maybe more because it's ingrained. In terms of unique features, it has a built in scripting engine where you can make your own scripts if you have a little programming experience it's fairly easy to adapt existing scripts. This alone has saved me many hours when making changes to huge amounts of files with repetitive tasks, you can make your script process a folder.

I use SF most days, it's indispensable in my life, and whilst Wavelab is much nicer on the eye, more modern etc... the workflow doesn't do it for me at all, although I do use it for some tasks when necessary. $30 is an absolutely crazy price for SF, give the demo a try. So there you go that's my take on it.

Thanks for the reply (and the current group buy :) ). Don't really have any scripting knowledge and had forgotten about batch processing which could potentially be very helpful but the question I asked was what would it add outside of scripting and batch processing that I couldn't get from Ableton. I remember using acoustic mirror quite often but now I could do what that does with most convolution vsts so unsure as to what additional value I'd get from SF.
