1) OK

2) OK. (Now I double clicked an instrument "of which name is "Time of the Season" and it's loaded.)

3) When I choose Kontakt 5 from the rack instruments it automatically created a MIDI track which is "Kontakt 5". (VST Instruments section at the right pane)
OK, seems like we need some troubleshooting:

Right after loading the instrument, expose the keyboard in Kontakt and click in any key. Do you hear a sound? If yes, then Kontakt is correctly loaded, configured, and sounding.
zanshin777 wrote: 4) I choose one of the imported MIDI Tracks from Guitar PRO which is "Guitar 1"

I choose

Output Routing = 01. Kontakt 5 - MIDI In (It doesn't say name of the instrument which is "Time of the "Season")
Let's troubleshoot again. Select the MIDI object that you just imported (it becomes dark/black) and in the MIDI menu select "Open List Editor". Now, Cubase opens the Event List editor, which looks like a spreadsheet, with several columns and many rows of values.

One of the columns is titled 2Channel". In that columns is the value 1, or another one?

zanshin777 wrote: 5) I choose "Record Enable" for both

a) Guitar PRO Imported MIDI Track "Guitar 1"
b) VST Instrument MIDI Track "Kontakt 5"
You should not have a VST Instrument MIDI Track labeled Kontakt 5, but a regular MIDI track. And you should just record enable one MIDI track (although nothing prevents you from having more than one enabled).

Anyway, and since you didn't clarify that part yet, do you have any kind of MIDI keyboard connected to your system? If yes, which MIDI interface are you using?

7) On the most extreme right below

a) MIDI In Activity : Active (Blue lines are moving)
b) Audio Activity : Active (Blue lines are moving)

!!! I couldn't find "Studio - Studio Setup" ?
It seems you are not using Cubase Pro, therefore, the menus may differ. But there has to be something like Studio Setup. Look for it in the Help. It's something like this: https://steinberg.help/cubase_elements_ ... io%2Csetup

Anyway, there is something else that I want you to try. Instead of importing MIDI tracks into an open project, I want you to go to the menu "File" and choose "Import > MIDI file". When Cubase asks you if you to create a new project or add to existing project choose "Create". Select the MIDI sequence where is the Guitar pro track you mentioned.

Cubase will now automatically add a rack instrument loaded with HALion Sonic SE, which will play all the MIDI tracks. Hit Play. All tracks should play. You can now solo just the track you want (the Guitar PRO track). You can also check to see in which channels it is effectively playing.

And you can then add Kontakt as a second Rack instrument, load sounds in it, and change one or more of the MIDI tracks that are playing in HALion Socie SE to Kontakt. I think this is the best way to check things and also for you to learn how things work inside Cubase.

3) Yes. It sounds right there.

!!! 4) At the MIDI tab there "Open List Editor" doesn't exist.

Items which are available are;

+ Open Key Editor
+ Open Score Editor
+ Open Drum Editor
+ Set Up Editor Preferences
+ Transpose Setup
+ Merge MIDI in Loop
+ Freeze MIDI Modifiers
+ Dissolve Part
+ O-Note Conversion
+ Repeat Loop
+ Functions
+ Logical Presets
+ Drum Map Setup
+ Insert Velocities
+ Reset

5) When mouse pointer came on the track we've talked about It says "MIDI Track" It seems "regular".

I have Nektar LX61+ as MIDI Keyboard. So far I connected it to the USB. It's USB Powered.
I have Focusrite 2i4 USB Audio Interface.

7)

I use Cubase 9 Elements, Windows 10 64-bit

"Devices - Device Setup - MIDI - MIDI Port Setup" All MIDI In Ports are active.

I'll will be waiting your answer. Thank you very much.

I screwed this up thinking 'Input Source' was input channel/mixer. My mistake! Sorry.
zanshin777 wrote:1) What should I choose for "Input Routing"
and "Output Routing"? (Native Instruments Kontakt or Focusrite Scarlett 2i4)
"Your input is probably not Kontakt."

You want your MIDI controller to appear here. I see in your Device Setup you have an input and output port activated for "session 1". Is that another name for your controller? If so choose that for 'Input Source'.

The output at Inspector has to be the target for the MIDI data. the instrument, ie., Kontakt.

This is all that has to happen. fmr seeks to be perhaps more educational than can be absorbed in one go. Generally this is all taken for granted. If you have installed everything properly. Don't be creating new names for things, ie., 'Native Instruments' will not appear normally at Inspector Input source.

zanshin777 wrote:I choose Kontakt 5 from Rack Instruments.

I got "Do you want to create a MIDI Track assigned to plugin Kontakt 5" I said "Yes"

Then the screen is like that.

What should I do now?
I see there that your input at Inspector is normal: All MIDI Inputs

Which means your controller should be communicating with Kontakt once you have an instrument instantiated there and its MIDI port and channel matches Inspector.

You're only having the one port so it's a matter of the channel. Load your instrument in the Kontakt instance and make Inspector send Channel 1 and Kontakt receive channel 1. In your picture there is nothing to receive the MIDI data from your imported-from Guitar Pro MIDI.

Post

OK, I suspect the problem resides in your MIDI configuration, and the way you handle (or don't handle) with MIDI data.

I want you to do two things.

1. Load the MIDI sequence that has the mentioned Guitar track in a new project, as I asked you previously. You must use the function Import > MIDI file. When Cubase asks if you want to Creat a new project, click "Create". Cubbase will create a new project, and will load a HALion Sonic SE multi with sounds for each track of the MIDI file.

2. Hit Play. The sequence should sound. HALion Sonic SE loads sounds according to the GM map, so, if you didn't follow that map, the sounds will probably sound all worng, but that doesn't matter.

3. Click the MIDI track that has the Guitar that you imported previously. Which channel is it playing?

4. Now load Kontakt as a Rack instrument.

5. Load the sound you wanted Kontakt to play with the MIDI Guitar track. Configure the sound so that it plays in the same channel the MIDI track is playing;

6. Now in the Inspector for the MIDI track, change the Output to Kontakt. Don't change the MIDI channel.

7. Now, you should hear Kontakt playing the MIDI Guitar track.

We will take care of the MIDI configuration for the controller after solving this.

BTW - It surprises me that Cubase Elements removed the MIDI Event List editor. It's the oldest MIDI editor, and very handy to really see what's happening.

3) Channel 1

I attached two pictures "MIDI 1" and "MIDI 2". Could you check the places where I put arrow marks?

There is still no sound while it plays.

Did you do what I asked you to? Did you load the sequence, and let it play with HALion Sonic SE? Did it play?

If you jump steps, and being at distance, I can't help you. And in the pictures, you hide the part below Kontakt, which is where I see the information about the channel. I doon't doubt you select Kontakt, but that's not enough.

I want you to import the MIDI file and play it using HALion Sonic SE. Then load an instance of Kontakt, DON'T CREATE ANY MIDI TRACK (say no when Cubase asks - you don't need that track), and leave HALion there too. Add Kontakt to the project, not in the place of HALion Sonic SE.

And in the next picture show the Kontakt window with the instrument loaded, as well as the track inspector of the MIDI track you assigned to Kontakt, with the channel part visible. I can't see it, because you draw the square over that part, but seems like there's something weird in the lower part where it should display the MIDI channel.

!!! 1) 2) Imported MIDI tracks from "File - MIDI File" and created a new project by choosing a folder.

If I choose "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" at the "Output Routing" for "Guitar 1" Channel It sounds while it plays. As default it doesn't sound.

But Halion elements don't exist there.

When Cubase opens I get errors like "Halion Sonic SE Artist Instrument Factory Presets 01" not found.

Is it the reason it doesn't sound? I want to play it with Kontakt not Halion.

I attached the files on my previous post again. You can check out.

OK, as I suspected, your Cubase installation is faulty. You shouldn't have to choose anything to play a MIDI file imported into Cubase. And HALion Sonic SE shouldn't display any error. Please uninstall Cubase, restart Windows and reinstall it from scratch.

Also, your Guitar track is displaying Any, which means that you can't tell it is playing on channel 1 - you simply don't know. Since the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth plays in all 16 channels, you have no way to tell which channel that track is actually playing (anyway, I find it weird that a track from a MIDI file comes up addressed to Any MIDI channel - I suspect there's more to that).

Anyway, to make sure things work OK, uninstall and reinstall Cubase, and this time use the correct installer and make sure that, when Cubase launches, there's no error message (it CAN'T have any error message if everything is properly installed). When yoiu have that solved, come back.

The problem was originating from the wrong installation.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem solved. Succesfully VST Instruments are being loaded and played now.

I think it's still weird because error messages are about "Halion Instruments" which I don't use and because of those Kontakt Instruments don't work.

Thank you very very much "fmr" and "jancivil"

You did a great effort to sort it out.

Glad you had that sorted. Enjoy Cubase :tu:

I have "Amplitube 4"

Can I use It to load to the guitar channel to play the imported MIDI file?

Post

Hi guys. Reinstalling Sonic SE 3 didn't help with my HALion Symphonic orchestra. I don't even have this file it wants me to locate on the whole hdd or in SYmphonic Orchestra installer :/. It used to work good with preinstalled invisible sonic SE version, but it stopped to be licenced, so I had to install Sonic 3 :/ Any ideas what should I do?

I have something like that in both Cubase and Nuendo. It has to be because I deselected something at install. If not, I give up. Reinstall Cubase.

You can insert it on the Instrument Channel. Under VST Instruments like so:
