Pattern Generator Question

Using the pattern generator in W9 to create a bass riff entering notes using "melody" option and following global chord track. This works really well in combination with "use scale notes" and means that can potentially I can update the riff to follow any chord change ideas. Well done on that.

However, I am a bit mystified by the tabs labelled "velocity" and "controllers" - how are these supposed to work? Clicking on the velocity lines that appear under that tab seems to add an extra random note and not change anything I am hearing. Perhaps I need a different tool for this? Haven't even tried controllers - but what is that for and how is it used?

(neither the manual nor video tutorial mention these features at all).

Also, a bit off-topic, but is there any way to insert blank space into the middle of an arrangement? Sometimes this is called "ripple editing". I realise that relevant clips can be dragged - but that is a bit unwieldy for anything but the simplest of sections.

I assume you mean the velocity and controller sections in the midi editor? These are to control various midi parameters. The velocity is kind of like a volume level for midi notes. If you lower the velocity it will get quieter. I'm not sure what you mean by it creating an extra note as notes are not placed in these areas.

I think there's an insert space command when you click on a clip but I can't check at the moment because I don't have Waveform installed. If not there's a ripple editing macro available in the sticky thread on working macros which may do what you want.
