As the title says...

rex/rx2 file support in Tracktion/Waveform is a bit poor... basically it´s just using it´s embedded tempo information, but it´s lacking of the 2 most important parts of rex files:

1. the included slice markers
2. no support for Recycle´s stretch parameter, which is present (and cannot be removed) in many rex2 files because it´s the default setting in Recycle (by the way it´s sounding very good)

The lack of part 1 results in having to do everything double...
I got an already perfect sliced file, which is then rendered into a normal wav file, which I have then to reslice for using in a Multisampler or sliced in the timeline... sounds not very logical, right?

The lack of part 2 is even worse... because Waveform is assuming a wrong tempo (because of the integrated stretch parameter) it´s using timestretching directly on import, which is mostly on drum loops a bad idea...

In my mp3 example hear, it´s first the normal wav file, followed by the rex file played from a decent slicer VSTi , followed by the native "interpretation" from Waveform...

The native Waveform "interpretation" lacks completely of the reverbish tails of the drum hits caused by the timestretch... sorry to say this, but this sounds shitty and choppy compared to the others...

Hope you don't mind if I jump in on this REX thread with a different problem.

In this screen cap you can see the silent flatlined wafeforms in the arrangement while at the same time under loop properties it looks and plays fine.

This is copied from another thread that I posted on last week:
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=461270

With some RX2s they work fine at first in several Edits but eventually upon opening the Edit some of the Clips/Loops in the arrangement go blank and instead of a waveform they just have "can't read this file". All of the Edits within the Project have the same problem. These RX2s are imported into the Project folder. When I click on "View Source Info" for the Audio Clip it has the file name and where it was imported from but in the Preview Pane it says "(File missing)". In the Waveform9Log.txt file it says "*** ERROR: REX (Code 202): Invalid handle" several times. This problem only affects about 10-20% of the REX files in the Project.

Can you make a function to tell Waveform to re-import missing files so I don't have to since it knows where they came from?

I checked with Cakewalk Sonar Platinum and the problem RX2s in the Project folder open and play fine.

The next morning when I opened the Edit all but two of the RX2s are normal, but this time the clips don't show "can't read this file" but just have flatlines as a waveform. In the clip information panel everything is normal and I can preview the files just fine but they won't play in the arrangement unless I drag them into the arrangement from the Imported folder in the browser panel. This is some strange behavior.

Thanks for any help on this.

You´re welcome... luckily I don´t have this problem you described (till now... knock on wood :D )
but I think it´s a good idea to collect issues in one thread for the devs (if someone is listening... are you somewhere out there??? )

I've had the issue of missing clip previews from T6 up through W9, and perhaps with earlier versions, yet I mostly skipped 4 and 5 so I can't say for sure. It appears to be a random glitch. W9 is perhaps not as flaky as the other versions, yet I can't say for sure.

I do a lot of comp recording with many clip splits, so my edits are filled with sliced multi-take comp clips, which seems to exacerbate the issue, as compared with say non-comp clips, yet I do see the issue on non-comp clips as well.

Very often I will load and playback an edit and notice audio dropouts that range from very slight to glaring, which when investigated reveal the missing clip previews. Sometimes the clip shows the straight line per your example, other times it's the Can't read file message showing, and at other times only a fragment of the preview is missing (straight line).

What works most of the time for restoring the preview, is to select the clip and drag a copy, which I immediately delete, which tends to cause the source preview to redraw. Sometimes just scrolling the transport view horizontally or vertically will bring them back.

It's a nasty issue, which has me constantly restoring these random preview losses. It's a super time soak and cause for concern when going to render an edit you think is ready for prime time.

Could Tracktion respond to the rx2 issue? I just want to see if there were any plans regarding it.

Reaper did a fantastic job of implementing support for rx2.

Sorry, this is in the backlog but I don't know when we'll get around to taking a look at it I'm afraid.
