I have the Edirol PCR-50 keyboard and very happy with it. USB interface and USB powered, so no extra power supply required. Too many features to list, go check it out here:

The PCR-50 goes for about $230 but you can also get the PCR-30 for about $180.
Hope that helps

Just do a Froogle for Edirol PCR-50 it becomes clear what the bottom price out there is real quick.
I found Edirol to be the best in the low end after a long bit of research. Spend a little extra and get the PCR-50 that has plenty of keys for almost anyone. It looks cool too! The plastic on alot of the other low end controllers has a real cheap feel IMO.

I saw the Edirol PCR-50 for $199 over here:

Which is just within your budged range. You can't go wrong.
Edit: I just noticed they are focussing on students. Not sure if you need some sort of student proof to buy from them or not. Worst case, I did see the PCR-50 for $220 at other places, which is still a good deal if you ask me.

Or you can buy the pcr-50 from e-bay. But not from "clarionbiz", he sold me one for $198 3 weeks ago and i'm still waiting for it
. But if you're in the US i guess it should work faster.
ps: the pcr-50 is by far the best choice, i did some research too

You want something with 61 keys really, as I dont know about anyone else, but personally, I cant play properly without using both hands, and with a 49key you will struggle to get the sounds you want.
All personal opinion of course.
I've just bought a M-Audio Radium61.
Cost me £145, which is probably about $200.
Its bound to be more expensive here though, so shop around in the US and it will be cheaper.
After all, I got mine from (rip off) Britain

Me too. If you like to play silly patterns, it is good, but for serious solos and that "musician" touch. Go with the M-Audio Keystation 61es. The keys are semi-weighted, and the price is "ok"DevonB wrote:No knock to Uncadave, but I found the feel of the Oxygen8 to be very cheap. Devon

I have the Edirol PCR-A30, and I love it. I tried out all the Midiman controllers, and they just didn't feel as solid to me as the Edirol products. I also have an older Kaysound 49key controller that I use as well.

Just a quick note, the M-Audio Key 61es was just released. I got the first one here in my area.theshaggyfreak wrote:I have the Edirol PCR-A30, and I love it. I agree about the Oxygen8. It's sweet for tapping on some keys and tweaking some knobs, but you can't play it really. I mean, of course you can't play a 2 octave keyboard
but the keys aren't great either. It's really just designed for tapping and tweaking, and IMO it does a great job for that. I got it because I was looking at getting a knob box, and grabbed this for it's 8 knobs and a few keys to tap on my desk. I would love one of the new M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 for the real controller
