Thanks for all the thoughtful posts in reaction to my original post. I'ts good to see people are committed to the path forward.

I will give an example of what got me thinking about the possible lack of interest in non EDM features moving forward, however.

I asked support if they ever thought of offering a config option to default the snap setting to off on new projects.

There was a pause and I was told no one would be interested in that, snap is one of their most useful features.

I was surprised because it seemed like a anyone 'recording off the grid' regularly would appreciate that.

Warp time as a clip effect is very handy for fixing small timing errors, playing audio live, by the way.

Is there a way to expand that panel? I tried getting into the warp time feature, but it just shows up too small...

You mean the properties panel? You don't need to do it there any more. It's available as a clip effect on the actual clip on the timeline itself. It's MUCH MUCH better there. You can add warp points, and drag them left and right to line up with peaks in other clips on other tracks, without even playing back the clip. Like, if you want to line up a guitar coming in with the kick drum, on another track, or whatever

If you've not tried it as a clip effect, this explains how to do it ... I rarely used warp time before this (except for just generally speeding up or slowing down an audio clip), because it was too fiddly in the properties panel, but it's great, implemented on the clip

This already exists. If you create a template with the snap turned off, and create new projects based on that template, they start up with the snap turned off ...

i missed that completely and had abandoned time warping because of the mentioned small window in the properties panel.
time to get back onto it

Pleasure, I was so pleased when i found that feature ... I really think they should make more of a big deal of that as a feature, because it seems to have gone right under the radar, and it's so useful, and implemented more or less exactly how i needed it to work

Just to add my opinions, I use W9 and I record mostly acoustic music, and I do use a bit of MIDI too. I find it very useful. I love all the features and how they allow me new ideas and let me take things where I want, even in acoustic music.

My Final thoughts on the future of Tracktion.

Great thread! Thanks ! I feel I have a different attitude now after reading through this.

Having just moved to Version 7 this weekend, I have decided to put my trust in the developers hands. 7 is better than 6 (big duh huh?)I think they have something in mind here, and it's obviously expressed through Waveform. I'm a believer.

They are doing a fine job bringing things along. Keep it coming.
