In the Waveform 9 manual on p. 141 (chapter 15) it describes how you can create an input alias that's a "Setting" for the device, then also apply input aliases inside an edit that stick only to the edit.
  • If I change the Input Alias on a device inside an Edit, then it's changed for all edits and in the settings panel.
  • If I change the Input Alias on the settings panel, then it's changed for all edits.
I tried this in Tracktion 7, Waveform 8 and Waveform 9 to see if maybe this was a regression. It acts the same in all 3 versions.

Is the manual incorrect about this feature, or is this a bug? Or am I simply misunderstanding the feature?

Yeah, the manual's wrong.

It'd be a fantastic feature if this was correct.

I mean ... I don't know for sure that it wasn't meant to work like this, and the manual's "right", and it's a bug that it doesn't work that way, in practice. But I've never known it to work that way. Whenever i've changed the input alias, it's always just changed everywhere. That I remember, anyway.

It sounds like the manual is wrong. Input Aliases are global (they can be accessed and changed from the Settings tab).
