Copy/Paste?

So this one has to be basic, but I can't figure out where I'm going wrong. After upgrade from T7 to Waveform, selecting a clip, copying it using "CTRL-C" then pasting it using "CTRL-V" does nothing. Used to copy the clip and paste it after the current clip in the same track. Doing this using the right-click menu does work the same, but the quick keys don't work on this any more. I'm certain it's something simple and I've gone through every menu option, but no luck. any ideas on where I'm going wrong?

Hi,

I started with W8 so I don't know W7's behaviour but this has tricked me too.
The Ctril+v (paste) with place the new clip and the cursor position on the highlight track.
The older W7 behaviour that you describe can simply be done with the 'd' (duplicate) keyboard shortcut.

There's also Ctril+i (Insert at cursor position) but I'm still a noob and don't fully understand the difference between Ctril+v & Ctril+i. I find 'd' duplicate more reliable anyway.

Cheers,
Gavin

Yeah, I can see how they're different, but adding a behavior that overwrites a standard behavior is a little wonky. For instance, I would simply change the key-mapping from "D" to "CTRL-V" but that would remove "CTRL-V" from being anything else (overwrite that common function). It worked how one would expect before and did so very cleverly (by placing the pasted material after the currently-selected clip), but to take that away and opt for a new kind of paste function seems too exploratory for such a legacy feature/key-mapping. =\

I changed the mapping from "D" to "CTRL-D" just so that I could get used to it (I'm used to holding CTRL-C, then tapping "V" to paste - as has been the standard across PCs for like 30 years), but again... wonky to have to do so in an improved interface. Not hating.. just grumpy to be slowed down with a new paste type that removes the old one's simplicity. =( Again, still could be wrong in this but your explanation matches what I'm experiencing too. Overall, still the best damn DAW around.

Thx for the feedback/help.

Puzzling indeed. I've just done that very thing successfully in T7, W8, and W9 in Windows 10.

Ctrl+i will move everything to the right of the insert point rightwards,so that the pasted clip fits between existing clips. Ctrl+v might end up overwriting whatever was to the right of the insert point.
