I'm tempted! I'll resist until tomorrow then decide.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Don't think there's much between ACE and TAL-MOD... actually, quite similar synths, i would say. Sound different, of course.surreal wrote:How does this compare to ace in general and Arturia modular V?

I like ACE a lot, but in all I like TAL Mod more than u-he ACE for three reasons mainly:
- Mod seems with a very optimised CPU (means much less CPU than ACE)
- I like more the modulation design (when you modulate a destination with more than one source is a nice idea
It only needs to pop up when you hover your mouse on it, not only when you click it)
- It has seq/arp which ACE hasn't and I was waiting forever till I knew from Urs it is a low priority, so I sold it, because IMO such a synth begs for a sequencer.
Mod is also easier to use than ACE. I don't know I could immediately do some nice sounds with it (maybe I got better in sound design
but I think it is because Mod is very inviting to do your own presets. It is only then you'll be wowed!
I don't know, though I have The Legend, RePro and ARP Odyssey, TAL Mod is still different (it is no emulation as well). I think the possibility that I buy it tonight is 99.99%

Yeah, I was just playing with it again and MOD is like what I wish Arp 2600v felt like to use. Like others have said, it is 'inviting.'

i love it.EnGee wrote:I'm tempted! I'll resist until tomorrow then decide.
still supporting XP, very low CPU usage, re-sizeable re-colorable gui and lots of bang for the buck. Just a real workhorse for the analog component in music creation.
TAL will stay in business for a long time if he keeps it up.

I really want to get TAL Sampler now. I really think Mod adds a lot to his little suite of plugins, a bundle of TAL stuff, including the best of his freebies, can now really take care of a lot of someone's synth needs.
I wish Mod had audio in, I'd love to use it as an effect.

In TAL-Sampler, you can modulate effect parameters so I think that it is quite likely that Mod will be able to as well.braj wrote:I'd like the ability to modulate the effects parameters.

Well, happy me, I am using Reason and just added a Pulsar dual LFO module to give Mod a couple more LFOs to work with, and now the knobs from Mod move with the modulation, which begs the question: will MOD ever get the option to display internal modulations as the synth is played? That would be pretty useful.perpetual3 wrote:In TAL-Sampler, you can modulate effect parameters so I think that it is quite likely that Mod will be able to as well.braj wrote:I'd like the ability to modulate the effects parameters.

TAL Sampler is one of my most very favorite instruments. Some people criticize the effects, but I happen to find that they blend with the dry sound beautifully. There are some very unique filter models as well. Also, the hollow sun sound library is diverse and sounds amazing. But you can create amazing sounds with just the basic default waveforms. If it were hardware, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Like you’re experiencing with Mod, it’s inviting and for me, music flows.braj wrote:I really want to get TAL Sampler now. I bought Mod without hearing it - and without a computer to even use it right now because my logic board failed - based on my love of Sampler.

I’m seriously contemplating upgrading to Reason 10. I made some of my favorite music back in the day using reason.braj wrote:Well, happy me, I am using Reason and just added a Pulsar dual LFO module to give Mod a couple more LFOs to work with, and now the knobs from Mod move with the modulation, which begs the question: will MOD ever get the option to display internal modulations as the synth is played? Fantastic synth really! I thought I won't buy any synth in 2018 (except one) but TAL Mod is a great synth and it is very hard to ignore. It cost me $63 NZD which is a bargain for such a synth.
It works great with Reason and Reaper (didn't test with Cubase yet). The GUI design is lovely with everything so balanced (Korg you should learn from TAL). The CPU is incredibly low while the sound is top!
Well done TAL! Another winner

Yeah, I wasn't in the market for this, but I couldn't pass it by for the intro price. It's a lovely synth. I think it will be my goto, it is all so concise yet not crowded, lots of functionality without arcane, weird and warped user interfaces in some other synths. It is easy to understand what is doing what. I swear, if I were to teach a synthesis class (not that I'm qualified) I would use this synth as the teaching platform. I have other semi modular synths that just frustrate me to try and program, but this synth is just intuitive. And if you know how to use a vst or host modulation or two with it, you can do a lot without it getting really confusing. I had my all time best most enjoyably and artistically fruitful few hours using a semi modular ever tonight. So for me, it is kind of a breakthrough, partly helped by patching stuff up in Reason.

One feature I'd like: morphable waveforms that goes between all of the available waveforms.

Hmmm, I can't think of anything 'essential' missing for me! Oh! I need a mapping for my nektar P4! But that is my problem to solve
