fluffy_little_something wrote:Maybe I am wrong, but in my view it sounded (past tense, I have just removed the demo, will wait for the hopefully bug-free regular release) similar to the free JX-8P emulation, which might make sense as TAL seems to be specialized on Roland synths for whatever reason...

But I think it sounds different from Noisemaker, despite probably being its successor (the third modulation envelope looks very similar to the one in Noisemaker, the effects are also very similar, despite the rather different design).
Yeah, i just put them side by side, and, MOD sounds more smooth, more detailled, not as harsh as Noisemaker, rather soft. Funny how you can be deceived when you haven't booted up the respective synth for a while. :) TAL-MOD does some great pads for sure. Nice filters too. Surely a winner for TAL there.

Only reason why i don't buy it is that i'm not quite fond of such a modular approach (i really hated ACE when i owned it...), and, because i have so many synths already. :help: Maybe next time, TAL.

What are you guys takling about , comparing it to the jxp ( martin luthers ) , while it's a great synth , it has nothing in common with talmod , yeah boths have osc's and filters ... :D
It's not because tal made some classic roland plugs , that everything should be compared with those .
Talmod sounds fantastic , I would even say that the filters are on par with 'the drop' from cytomic .
U-he ace has the edge over talmod when it comes donw to modulation , but talmod"s filters are imho way better .
If we can get the developer to implement some modulation mixers ,and perhaps some math functions for scaling ...a voice count output as modulation source ( for filter spreading ) this wil lbe a winner .
I can't believe talmod doesn't get more attention , maybe because it's still in alpha
It's a bloody fantastic synth :tu:

I disagree. I made a couple of classic saw and brass pads, imho it has a similar sound character as the PG-8X, it is a compliment, not an insult.
Of course the feature list is quite different.

As soon as you crank up the pg8 resonance , the difference between both filters become verry obvious .
Just use your ears ..and if you can't hear it..use an osciloscope .

I think TAL is very affected by Roland. So, maybe this is why you felt the similarities. He also seems affected maybe by Depeche Mode as there is a patch called 'Waiting' which reminds me of "Waiting for the night" song :)
Off topic - Sorry:
This is the first time I heard about PG-8X! I haven't put attention to it! I just downloaded it and searched for JX-08 sysex files, then load some of them (too lazy to do my own now!). I immediately donated what I can to the developer! This is so good synth! Maybe the best freeware/donationware synth available now! Great find :hihi:

Happy to have both today to play with, but I won't make music with TAL Mod till it is stable. I also think I'm hearing some random light 'crackles' in some patches, but not 100% sure if TAL Mod is the cause.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

scroll upwards for my bug report , I think the crackle is caused by the bandreject filter + high resoance

Were those patches part of the included presets?

Yes (but please read below as I couldn't reproduce it today!)

Edit:
I tried today to find the presets that have that 'crackles' but to my surprise I couldn't find!! So, it seems it is related to my system not the plugin. Anyway, if I can reproduce it, I will send email to the developer explaining the steps.

I have tried your steps, but couldn't find any wrong doing!

"-Set osc 1to full volume
-filter routing serial
-First filter any lowpass filter set to aroud 400 hz
-secon filter notch , full resonance .
-NOw sweep filter cut off 2 , to 40 hertz ..;zipper noise ...and it stays there ... "

And if you load this patch and hold a low note C2 for at least 2 seconds ...turn up the volume

Yes I hear a wobbling after about 2 seconds but also with crackling noise!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Post

the wobble is because of the extreme low setting of the band reject filter , the noise/crackling is because of the steep reonance setting .
Def. a bug ..
I already reported it

Great :tu: I hope it will be fixed in the next update.
