How about Linux support for what's upcoming ? Is that factored in ?
Cheers.

Linux support is and will always depend on contribution from the Linux community. We're happy to pay for work, but we're not going to hire a specialist on a full time base.mevla wrote:How about Linux support for what's upcoming ? Is that factored in ?

Is u-he allowing the source code out of Germany for international contribution ?Urs wrote: Linux support is and will always depend on contribution from the Linux community. We're happy to pay for work, but we're not going to hire a specialist on a full time base.

Currently Abique is doing pretty much all of the work on a every-now-and-then base. If one day he can not do it anymore, we will try to find someone else.
That said, I don't think it makes sense to add more developers to the team at this point of time.

Yes, it was a way to piggy-back on " the Linux community" you mentioned and about which we all know the workings which is one, well, of a community. Several people. Often international. I found it mildly dissonant that you mentioned "community" when actually only Alex is doing some work, when he has the time for it. Only an observation.Urs wrote: ? It would be nice though, to have a KVR u-he Linux sub-forum, instead of the awful reddit thing.
Cheers.

As long as downloads are in the tens rather than the ten thousands, I don't think we can do much about it. We'll continue to pay on top as long as it doesn't start hurting us badly.

I think you misunderstood that besides Alex' work we rely on "the Linux community" to do the customer support and testing. It's not just the development...mevla wrote:Yes, it was a way to piggy-back on " the Linux community" you mentioned and about which we all know the workings which is one, well, of a community. I guess I did my part last week when I helped someone who had problems registering. The quickest solution was to simply text-edit the appropriate file for the u-he plugin.Urs wrote: I think you misunderstood that besides Alex' work we rely on "the Linux community" to do the customer support and testing. Nevertheless, reddit is a terrible place to follow anything. No way to see what's new, for one thing. Would it be possible to have a KVR u-he Linux subforum ? This would be at least much more organized, cleaner. Not a single thread. A subforum. Perhaps a sticky message would describe the "terms and conditions".
Cheers.

You can also just have an ongoing Linux thread in this regular forum. No need to make a sub-forum.mevla wrote:I guess I did my part last week when I helped someone who had problems registering. No, no, no and no. A single thread is the worst thing that happened. A single thread in anything the least varied is a dreadful thing to have. Like a development single bug report in which QA and developers end up exchanging on several bugs.pdxindy wrote: You can also just have an ongoing Linux thread in this regular forum. Reply #27 "fixed reply # 15"
Reply #33 "problem in reply #17 still present"
Reply #45 "need test again reply #6"
So on so forth. And it could get much worse.
Who wants something like that ?
Cheers.

You keep putting up worst-case scenarios regarding
a normal forum topic. I have found the U-he linux users
to be very respectful and helpful, and understand this
linux porting is a very unique situation, and that
having the exact same level of factory support as
mac/win versions, isn't a necessity.
Serious bug reports and workarounds should go where Abique wants them to go, at reddit, for now,
but that does not mean there cannot be friendly
and helpful discussions elsewhere, focussed on
productivity, creativity, cheering, and education.
Cheers
...and the arrival of a new Lyrebird Pro will
certainly be most welcome

It's worth of mentioning that you are using Windows software in your Linux setup, making it a point in numerous occasions in Linux discussions in various places. As such the door is opened to go with the officially supported Windows version when possible and leave the bugs in Linux.glokraw wrote:You keep putting up worst-case scenarios regarding a normal forum topic. Now it is not a question of respect and helpfulness. It is a question of functionality. Even more so in the light that the 'community' is doing part of the support which includes support between users (as you know I did recently) as wellas testing versions and reporting problems.
reddit does not offer the clarity and focus that a traditional forum like KVR does. With reddit it's not easy to see what are the new replies within threads. Unless perhaps you pay for an account, I do not know. I will not in any case pay for an account.
The single thread approach is also not a question of respect and helpfulness although it deteriorates the latter by a substantial factor. It does so by lacking any form of structure. As such it adds an unwanted and unnecessary overhead in following problems, replies and comments. Anyone can testify to this.
A u-he KVR sub-forum would help on all fronts and would also allow Linux users to quickly and conveniently keep a tab on major u-he news and comments. It would also show by the means of a concrete action that u-he still has something going on with Linux and is not an outcast project relegated to the oubliettes. Even if it sells in the tens.
All good stuff.
Cheers.

He actully favours the idea.
