If they want a stripped down version they presumably have the rights to all the Sonar DAW versions -such as the basic version or even Music Creator 6. They have released the full thing though.
DAWs are like word processors - you get used to the one you learn on.
You can learn to use others but there is a time and workflow cost whilst you figure them out.
Cakewalk is a very full featured DAW for free. It is going to increase its user base for sure if it keeps being stable and free.
I have Sonar Plat but bought it in increments on sale and it only cost me about $200-$250 in all - for that I also got Z3ta2, Dim Pro, Rapture, Melodyne Essential and AD2 with 3 packs thrown in. I think that was good value just for the VSTs. I'll keep my last version of Plat but will also port over to this - hopefully there is no material difference...

Fyi: that "Meng" dude is the BandLab CEO.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:
They're pretty clear that's not the plan. For isntance, there was this statement by one "Meng" (one of the Bandlab folks on the Cakewalk forum):
Pretty cool of him to jump into the forums to help provide info!
He is a serious musician, and really wants to make this work!

The guy is a billionaire with way more money than Cockos Justin. If Justin could make Reaper survive as, in practice, donationware, surely Meng can do it for even lesszzz00m wrote:Fyi: that "Meng" dude is the BandLab CEO.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:

No, he is not a billionaire - yet.JoseC. wrote: The guy is a billionaire with way more money than Cockos Justin. If Justin could make Reaper survive as, in practice, donationware, surely Meng can do it for even less
His father Mr Kuok Khoon Hong, who is the founder of the world’s largest palm oil business, Wilmar International, is a billionaire. Meng is one of four children who may or may not go on to inherit their fathers fortune.
Perhaps it would be better to call him a "billion-heir".

Well, it seems that he has access to dad's funds, and he is worth $13 billions, so that point is moot from my piss poor point of viewdellboy wrote:No, he is not a billionaire - yet.JoseC. wrote: The guy is a billionaire with way more money than Cockos Justin. Its not Mengs father who is worth $13 billion. He is the nephew of Robert Kuok who is worth that amount.JoseC. wrote:

Mengs father is still worth a respectable $2.7 billion according to wiki. As to how much he has contributed to Mengs music related activities it states in the article you linked to.......
"We don't believe in entitlement," said Mr Kuok, who declined to say how much of his funding came directly from his father.

Considered how many paid for its development.
I am sincerely happy to see it carry on, rather than be buried!

I believe that Meng's master plan for giving this thing away is world domination. Imagine if this gets widely adopted in the education market. Kids will learn this in school, produce a zillion YouTube tutorials, and it will become the industry standard.
Now you are free to laugh at that last statement if you wish!

Yup, that is weird but probably unrelated. Whenever Mozilla gives me a connection error, it is something network related.VELLTONE MUSIC wrote:after installing it some weird stuff start hapening ,like mozilla give me 'conection error' and had to deinstall all ...any ideas why is this happened?

And MAYBE Facebook just want to help people connect.fmr wrote:Except that MAYBE they want to create a whole eco-system around Cakewalk, with downloadable content (eventually paid), in which case the "assistant" makes all the sense. After all, this is a business corporation, and certainly they have a business model thought for it. It's not a bedroom developer that just launched an "app", decided to gave it away and forget about it.BMoore wrote:This isn't an argument for a Bandlab(!) I had to uninstall (then delete) all of the Bandlab "Assistant" software ... it was slowing my start-up times down.VELLTONE MUSIC wrote:after installing it some weird stuff start hapening ,like mozilla give me 'conection error' and had to deinstall all ...any ideas why is this happened?
