After doing a rescan of my Waves plugins and blowing out the various files as advised by waves I now have every plugin Waves ever made scanned but left out all the ones I purchased,Anyone know how to keep all the unpurchased plugins out of the scan. Also the amount of email offers on Waves plugins I get nearly every day suggests to me they need more business so why Waveform 8/9 seems to be such a pain I do not know,

Do I understand this right..? You installed all the Waves plugins and did a plugin scan.. which resulted in Waveform seeing all of the Waves plugins except for the ones you actually own?

Post

How did you install the plugins you don't own? My process with the Waves Central is to install the plugins I own and nothing else (nothing else shows up in the options).

Also, Waves licensing is a pain in itself. And Tracktion is working with them to try to get the DAW supported or at least have all the plugins work as expected.

I had plenty of problems getting my Waves plugins to work in Waveform 9 but they are in now (not in T7 though). I only have the Scheps Omni and the CLA signature stuff, and they now work fine in Waveform 9 (64 bits, VST3, Win 10).

The whole list of plugins are there which will not work until a license is purchased but the ones I own are missing.Getting them to appear in the list has always been a problem,I know where they are but they won't scan.Eventually after messing around I will find them but they seem to play hide and seek :hihi:.I'm sure that PSP did the same, downloaded the whole lot but then obviously need a license to use.

That's not how Waves central works.

I've got a bunch of Waves plugins, only the ones I've chosen to install show up. I'm really not sure how you've managed to install all of them, and scanned only ones you haven't licensed. I can't think how that's possible.

To scan Waves plugs, on windows, you want to scan the single shell dlls *only* which are called

WaveShell1-VST 9.92_x64.dll and
WaveShell1-VST3 9.92_x64.vst3

On my laptop, these are at ;
C:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns

and

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

You do NOT want to scan the waves install folder at C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\Plug-Ins V9
There's docco on the Waves site saying to scan that folder. Do not scan that folder.

Just find those two files, on your laptop, and scan those two single dlls ONLY.

If you scan both of those shell files, you'll end up having scanned both the VST2.4 and VST3 version of each of the Waves plugins. So you'll have duplicates, one listed as "VST", the other as "VST3".

But that's probably what you want, because one or other may work better, in Waveform.

As an example, the VST3 version of Schepps Omni Channel works fine, whereas the VST2.4 version has gui issues, in Waveform. So you want to use the VST3 version.

So scan both shell files, then when you know which version of each plugin is the one you *don't* want to use, untick the "Show" field, in the plugin list, and untick the "Show all plugins" setting. Eg, don't show the VST2.4 version of Scheps Omni Channel, because the gui is buggy.

Mate, the waves docco on this is rubbish. I figured it out by trial and error. Their website actually says to do something different, but it's a couple of years out of date, so I decided to ignore it and guess till I found something that works.

This works, for 64 bit Waveform. It's slightly different paths for 32 bit T6 or T7, but again, you only want to scan a single waves shell dll, not what they say to scan.... All very bizarre

How is that Grand Rhapsody? I've had my eye on it. It looks brilliant from the few specs shown, but I've been holding back wanting more details on the number of velocity samples, CPU usage, etc.

Grand Rhapsody is much as expected from a sampled piano,it's acceptable.Iv'e never liked sampled pianos as I originally bought a Roland RD 250S for live use which will cut through a Band unlike a sampled piano.People do use live sampled pianos and swear by them but to me they haven't the attack.I know this is off subject but try the demo first and see how you go,at least you can try before you buy,

Yeah, it just seems such a hassle to try it. It's like a million GB plus even looking at the Waves Central stuff gives me the creeps from all the licensing problems I've had.

To counter your point, I 100% see your meaning in cutting through the mix, but I grew up loving the sound of acoustic pianos and so most synth pianos sound like a potato to me. I'm new to mixing, so maybe I'll learn to use mix-friendly piano synths. However, the ideal scenario for me is a solid multi-mic VST of a luxurious grand, with enough controls that I can change the attack, personality and whatnot to match the needs of the mix. I tried the soundfont stuff but most of it is underwhelming.
