It looks like you may have missed the point about web hosting. I don't believe he is trying to make money with this thing, but it does cost money to share it with the world...

I would agree that is more in the 'spirit' of Ichiro Toda himself. He would be proud of you!

Thank you for your personal patch contributions to the Synth1 project!

Exactly.. and donated! :hihi:

Thank you to the individuals that have contributed - it means a lot. You guys, however, are in the minority - for every 500 downloads, I receive 1 contribution. At this time, I don't have enough even to cover web hosting costs :( .

So my simple request is: if you enjoy using the Librarian, please help support it :help:. Thanks!
Thanks for the update! :tu:

One thing I noticed about this installer is that it creates a new VST folder in Windows, rather than ask where to install it. If that folder is not in your host VST scan paths, you will continue to see only the older plugin version in your host The solution is to replace the existing 'Neutrino Sky' folder with the newly installed one.

HI for web hosting your stuff free. Try making a wix.com site. It has all the tools you need to easily create a site and host the same stuff you are doing and doesnt cost you anything. The only thing you sacrifice is a custom url. but who cares as long as it works.

I agree. Also, Oatmeal :)

I also can host it on my webspace.

For free.

No need to look for a web host. When they are free they generally are very annoying with their loads of ads.

I can host the file in a dedicated directory. And without any ads (it is not by a free shared web hosting service, it is really private). And for as long as you want. Years...

Wow! Thanks for the suggestions and offers, that's really incredible .

I've expended so much brain juice working on the Librarian, that I don't have the energy to move the website right now. And I'd already paid for the hosting last year, so I'll stick with it for the time being. Anyway, if I create more plugins  , I'll have somewhere to publish them.

Back in Jan/Feb (when I released Synth1 Librarian on KVR), my monthly bandwidth rocketed to 15Gb in a week! Thankfully, it's dropped down to around 1Gb/wk since that initial spike, so I shouldn't incur any penalties.

It's been an interesting journey, to see how well Donationware works in practice. I've been discussing this with my wife, and she suggested that I change it to Charityware instead. So instead of contributions to me, your contributions would go towards something truly meaningful in the world.

I'll post an update after I've pondered over this and find more clarity... if you have any thoughts, I'm all ears!

Cheers!

You can also host zip files etc on Google Drive for free if you have a Google account.

Post

You can also create a "free" Google Site with the files linked from Google drive.
So you can create a free website with google. It's easy. All you need is a Google account.
Of course if you hate Google, you won't like this idea :)

If anyone experienced problems getting Synth1 Librarian to work with their DAW/host (e.g. Cantabile), I've just released a version that hopefully fixes the issue.

Cheers :)

Just detected this utility yesterday and installed the latest version dated 2018-05-18.
But it seems I can't get it to work properly.
I'm quite sure I set up everything correctly, as everything seems to work more or less as expected, except for the scanning of my one and only zip file in the 'ZipBank' folder.
This zip file is called 'Patches' and it seems to get scanned correctly - at least there is no error output.
This zip file contains a lot of banks, but it seems that only the first bank makes it to the Synth1 Librarian's database.
After the 'Build' process I only got one bank called 'Patches' (like the name of the zip file itself) and this bank just contains the presets from the 1st bank in that zip files (presets from a bank called 'Altmeister's Magic Cracker Bank').
I used the installer to get the required prerequisites, but then copied the folder in the 32 bit 'Program Files (x86)' to my own location where I keep all my VSTs and then uninstalled the Synth1 Librarian and now I'm just using the DLL in my VSTs folder. Could that be an issue? (I guess not, but just wanted to let you know...)
Any help appreciated!
Cheers,
Patrik

Edit:
This all is with 32 bit version of host (Cantabile, energyXT and VSTHost - tried them all), with 32 bit version of the librarian and 32 bit version of Synth1.
I did additional testing, where I modified the zip file to be named 'MyPatches.zip' and removing all but two banks in there.
With the same unexpected results that now after a 'Build' I still have only one bank called 'MyPatches' containing just the presets from the first bank from within that zip file...
Synth1 itself displays everything correctly.
I also tried deleting the temporary folder created by Synth1 itself where it extracts all its patches from the zip file to - to no avail.

The following is the output from a 'Build':
2018-05-19 14:07 - Building library...
2018-05-19 14:07 - Unzipping patch archives...
2018-05-19 14:07 - Importing banks...
2018-05-19 14:07 - Categorising all Patches...
2018-05-19 14:07 - Guessing patches for each category...
2018-05-19 14:07 - Saving library...
2018-05-19 14:07 - Done. Imported 128 patches

Hi,

Sorry, but Synth1 Librarian wasn't designed to handle zip files that contain multiple banks. It expects the zipbank folder to contain a number of zip files, where each zip file contains a single bank. This is the format I've commonly come across when downloading banks from the web.

It sounds like you know what you're doing, so maybe this tip could help you convert your 'super' zip file into multiple smaller ones: https://superuser.com/a/94437

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks a lot - that explains everything...
Just funny that I seem to be the first one with this issue... (or maybe I just overlooked that in the instructions?)
I always thought that those zip files where meant to contain more than one bank, because I always download only those with many banks in them - but maybe that's because I just was after this kind of Synth1 zip files ;-)
The link you gave me was great. Exactly what I needed!
So everything works fine now!
Great work! - donation on it's way!

So, I've decided to donate all contributions for Synth1 Librarian to charity. I've explained the reason here:
