Hello,

Some ideas how to recreate this plugin? Mspectraldynamics should do the trick, but don't get it to sound that accurate and clear as spiff.

Thanks and greets,
Marek

Hey, I don't think MSpectralDynamics is the one to go for here really, it more looks like the Tonal/Transient crossover in all multiband plugins. But just guessing from the description, no time to check.

Ok, will try, thanks

I was too curious, so I tried after all :). It indeed seems like the tonal/transient crossover, but with variable amount depending on frequency. But to be honest, I just couldn't figure out, how to use it well. It's just not natural for me, like the other plugin from them, apparently we are made from rather different matter :D.

No problem, like it for removing mouth noise for example. Funny, but we have this possibilities today.

Interesting, I'll check it on that! I only tried drums, since it is marketed as transient processor, but it only made everything worse... so perhaps it's goal is different.

The tonal/transient feature doesn’t help to get me close to what spiff does. Maybe some other ideas of the forum users?

Vojtech, give it a try by time, maybe there is something interesting inside for a feature update or new plugin? Maybe another algorithm for mspectraldynamics?

Thanks and greets,

I added new active presets to MXXX (more to come soon)

"Transient EQ" is the same idea as Oeksound Spiff and Sonible Entropy. Turn the dial to the left to increase the transient or to the right to soften it. It also has dynamics too! Spiff does not have that. And you also have control over the transient length and detection threshold too! Wowzers trousers :o

"Spectrum EQ" lets you change the balance between tonal and noise!
Spectrum EQ.JPG
Use the 2 in combination to get loads of flexability for things like mouth noise, guitar pick noise, breath, de ess, bring elements forward in a mix, add focus and clarity, and loads more.

I am also currently working on a 3rd EQ that will achive similar to Oeksound Soothe. It will bassically boost frequencies without boosting resonances. Next after that will be a 4th EQ that will chnage the distance of the sound similar to Sonible Proximity.

Ha! Where it is btw? I tried to search for "spectrum" in the online exchange and got nothing.

Ha ha it is not in the exchange. You added it to the active presets in MXXX

Sorry, but I don’t get close to the results of spiff with these two presets.:-(

Post

Svama,
The more details that you give about how you use Spiff and the results that you get, coupled with what you did using the presets and how you see the results, could help jmg8 to improve upon the presets. :tu:
Help him to help you.

The transient eq has a weird sound, artificial.
You just have to compare the delta signal of spiff and the diff signal of the two Mxxx presets and you can hear that there are happening two really different things.

Post

Yes, they are quite different.
I wouldn't advise listening to the diff, it will not help you.

Instead, think about what you are trying to achieve.
If you want an exact clone of Spiff, then I will not help. Just go and buy Spiff.
If you are trying to achieve similar results as Spiff then you need to spend more time with these EQs I made and you will find them very useful.
The artificial sound is because they are spectral and only really happens if you push them hard. So try to use more subtle values.
Also dependant on your audio, you will probably need to adjust the settings at the bottom to help it work better.

What mixing task are you trying to achieve?

Do you actually have a vocal recording where you need to remove the mouth noise? Or did you just read that it can be used for that from the Spiff website?
