Hello,

Did not see any upgrade offer for Biotek2 in my account as a Biotek1 user.

Make sure you're signed in to your account and then go to the BioTek 2 product page: https://www.tracktion.com/products/biotek
Click "Buy" and you'll see an option for the upgrade.

OK. The offer was not there when I posted the above. Now it is.

However, Biotek 2 does not show up at all in Bitwig (Linux). Nor in Harrison Mixbus32C.

I have installed approx. 25 plugins in the recent 3 weeks. I know the drill.

It's a bit surprising that Biotek 2 file size is that much less when compared to Biotek 1, as shown in the listing above.
bitwigBiotek2.jpg
Also, the delivery is rather minimal. This is the contents of the archive:

Code: Select all

16592672 May 18 12:15 BioTek 2.so*
    6144 May 18 12:15 changelog.txt
    1412 May 18 12:15 Readme.txt
Looking at the changelog above and powering up Biotek 1, I see that I have 1.5.5 and was never notified of updates 1.5.7, 1.5.8, 1.5.9 and 1.6.0.

Also, no updated user guide in the Linux version. To get it one has to download and install the Windows version.

BTW, I did try the Linux demo version just in case. As someone else reported, it messed up the Tracktion account. Only demos can be downloaded now. Even Waverazor, which I beta-tested and got early on, is now only available as a demo.

I hope the issue will be solved in the best delay. Too bad it's the weekend isn't it.

I tried the Windows version. As you can see from the screen shot above I run some Windows plugins. These include:

All Voxengo plugins.
Image Line synths: Sytrus, Harmor, Harmless, Ogun, Sakura, Morphine
KV331 Synthmaster2
Rob Papen Go2
Psychic Modulation Phonec2 and Echomelt2
Sonic Charge Synplant and Microtonic
Sugar Bytes Obscurium, Factory, Aparillo, Consequence

However Biotek2 for Windows will not run as it crashes the loader.

So the bottom line for today is: fully paid for, but neither the Linux or the Windows version will run.

Post

BioTek 2.0.7 has been released now which should fix the Windows issues. We'll take a look at the Linux problems ASAP.
Thanks for bearing with us

Post

Bottom line for release day # 2 is: fully paid for, but the Linux version - shipped without any user guide by the way - does not run. I'm interested, as with the original Biotek that runs fine in the same setup, in the advertised Linux version.

If you go here:
https://www.tracktion.com/training/manuals
you can access the BioTek2 manual (without having to log in).

Click on the BioTek logo when the page appears.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

As I wrote just a few replies up, I got the user manual from the Windows install. I presume the Mac install also has the manual within it.

The Linux archive gives the impression that 3 files, a .so, a changelog and a short readme were just thrown into it for $99. A far cry from a professional package such as:

Don't you find ?

What version of Linux are you using so I can download the exact same one?

We've moved the content download in to the plugin now so the initial download is very quick, the content downloader will show automatically when you open the plugin.

This is Linux Mint 18 KDE. This was communicated to support.

Straight from the Linux Mint 18 Sarah KDE web site release, last sentence bottom of page:

"Linux Mint 18 is based on Ubuntu 16.04. Make sure to read the Ubuntu release notes."

Yes, but the plugin has to show first. In any case downloading the actual content was not a long operation by any means isn't it. And it has to be downloaded in any way to get a fully functional trouble-free application.

The web site mentions tested with Ubuntu 14.04. This was released on April 2014. I gather that 16.04 has no sound coming out of Biotek 2. I'm afraid I use a more recent system than 14.04.

The Ubuntu 14.04 is a web error. It should be 16.04, I've asked Brian to update this.

BioTek 2 does show up in Ubuntu 16.04.
I had Mint 17 Cinnamon installed which is why I'm asking.

In Mint 17 it BitWig shows this error:
Screen Shot 2018-05-23 at 13.54.49.png
I'm now trying to find out what the 255 error actually means.

Seeing as BioTek 2 at least loads in Ubuntu 16.04, there must be some difference between either the OS or BitWig for it not to work in exactly the same way in Mint. The BioTek 2 binary delivered by us is exactly the same.

I'm now installing Mint 18.3 to see if I can find out any more info as to why it's failing to install.

Oddly enough I just tried the following:
• Open Bitwig as normal
• Open the "Plugins" -> "Plugins with Errors" page and if "BioTek 2" appears here press rescan. Try this a couple of times
• BioTek 2 now appears in the "Plugins" list in the page before but still not in the "Devices" list to be added to a track [Update: after restarting Bitwig BioTek 2 shows up in the devices list]
• I dragged the "BioTek 2.so" file directly on to a track and it loaded up ok
• It was silent initially but adding a MIDI clip to a track and adding a note brought it to life and I can hear sound

I'm not sure why but it seems that something is failing to register the first time around. At some point I did change the plugins host option to "Only as bit-bridge" but I'm not sure if that was the reason it decided to load. I was also running Bitwig from the Terminal to see any useful logging info here in case you want to do the same. Just run "bitwig-studio"

We'll continue to look in to this but I'd be interested to know if the above works at all for you?

Post

OK, there's some development. Now the plugin shows. There's is some kind of error in unlocking, had to do it twice, worked the second time around. After downloading the contents, specifying locations, restarting Bitwig, it took a little time to register, if only to have the VST parameters being shown to Bitwig, and also to emit a sound. Now it works though. I'll update the subject line.

Contrary to what the Readme.txt file indicates, there's no Documentation folder from the downloaded contents/procedure/zip file:

% ll /B3/Plugins/Tracktion/BioTek 2 Content V6/

Code: Select all

drwxr-xr-x 2 mevla mevla 12288 Apr 26 19:48 Samples/
I did get the updated user guide from the Windows install although it should be included with the Linux version.

All in all, sorry for the noise, now it works fine. Well, in works fine after a few minutes playing some sounds ...

To sum up:

1) This said the VST parameters do not register in Bitwig until there's a sound that is played. See attached screen shot. I do not know yet how this will fare with Bitwig modulation/automation.

2) Also, when initially loading Biotek 2 will case Bitwig to totally stop, to freeze. Even Bitwig's spinning widget will stop for perhaps 15 seconds. Each and every time Biotek 2 is loaded.

3) There's no documentation provided, no Documentation folder is created from either the downloaded contents, the initial zip file, or by running Biotek 2. The Readme.txt file mentions a Dcoumentation folder, but it's not there. I got the updated user guide from the Windows install. Should be part of the Linux version.

Hi Mevla and Dave,

glad you were able to finally solve it. As for the missing manual, yes, I will add that to the package.

Best wishes,

Wolfram
