I bought Europa on Sweetwater just now. Sweetwater emailed me an activation code. But, that code is too short to enter as license code in the Europa Demo VST. There is nowhere else to enter this code and no way on the website to register the product, since it doesn't exist in the drop-down menu of "other" instruments to activate.
????
So, I just bought something I can't use.
Help?

Yeah I'm loving it apart from the slight flakiness. I think the comparisons with Serum etc are missing the fact that this is pretty unique in that it combines not just the wavetables (like Serum) but also waveshaping (more like z3ta or Wiggle) and spectral filters bring it closer to Razor or their own Parsec.
I do wish it had some macros though (like Massive) - the interface has so many ways to shape the sound you really need a way to simplify this down to some key controls that affect multiple params at once.

IMHO their motive is to bring Reason name "awareness" in every DAW. Look it doesn't even say Europa by Propellerhead. It is Europa by Reason and keep in mind the power of repetitive word unconsciously it will register on subconscious mind and it is very effective advertisement if you ask me. Open this plugin in Studio One and everywhere there is the word Reason in the sequencer, mixer you name it. Europa by Reason, Europa by Reason, Europa By Reason. Poor Reason DAW... just can't get any love can you?
Personally I can't imagine anyone purchasing $100 for Europa, I have it now for free on my R lite and its Meh-ville. Expanse or Serum if you really want that sort of stuff.
They'd have better luck with Grain and I'm sure that will be next.
This isn't progress for Propellerhead, its necessary unless they plan on genuinely improving their DAW. Time will tell, I got the popcorn out and won't be affected either way.
Propellerhead genuinely thinks their creations are worth the money -- in some ways they're right, some ways they're wrong depending on the product we're talking about. They love making devices, pretty much all they do, and the jury is still out as to whether they can actually code the DAW stuff Reason needs into Reason.
In fact, seeing how PH has done this consistently since Reasons' inception, the practice of just developing devices and barely touching the DAW, means this move is pretty much perfect for Propellerhead if they get the market needs and pricing down. PH is still in lalaland from the fannies who blindly pluck down a $130 upgrade for a few devices, or new purchasers who really do get a lot for their one Reason purchase 10 versions in. They may or may not need those devices, but certainly bubble in ecstasy. So PH figuring out the market and pricing will take some time, but they'll get it eventually. And once that happens, Reason as we know it will continue to be exactly as it always has been, a device farm.
I guarantee one thing, Propellerhead didn't market a VST synth for 'advertising purposes' that you think would bomb, in hopes that PH raises positive awareness of Reason as a DAW - its counter-intuitive on every level. Europa isn't worth it to me, but there's far more people who have no clue nor care - they'll plunk down their hard earned money and justify it vehemently whether sincerely happy or not. People who need a DAW knows about Reason and the other dozen choices, Propellerhead doesn't need a baby serum/expanse to raise awareness of their DAW.

I agree, Europa benefits greatly from macros. CV and Combinators do this in Reason (as you likely know). I suspect they won't be adding a macro interface just for the VST which would complicate the code-base and make maintenance tougher. It'd also make patch sharing less useful.aMUSEd wrote:I do wish it had some macros though (like Massive)

Their devices are made first and foremost for Reason and to utilize the CV and routing system it uses so to their users there are deeper benefits of value and uses and are therefore worth more to them. Europa just as every other device in Reason fits seamlessly into the workflow and becomes part of it. The VST version will be of less value to non Reason users as they miss out on a wider scope of applications for it.Psuper wrote: Propellerhead genuinely thinks their creations are worth the money -- in some ways they're right

The facts, however, about Reasons' development is plain to anyone who has has been around, and/or has a brief look into past updates.

Expanse is the better one by miles, especially for the CV.
I'd hope to see more RE devs porting to VST too. I think they'd be crazy not to, too rocky of a ship-daw Reasons' future is.

I was just commenting as I'm guessing some people who have never used Reason may be wondering about why some people are in love with it and don't mind paying the asking price. Europa in Reason is a different beast to it's VST counterpart was all I was sayingPsuper wrote: Of course. Not sure if you're agreeing, disagreeing, or just commenting. : )

It's a wavetable synth? There is of course the first question: how it's comparable with the competitors like Serum.

According to their landing page, Europa VST is "free to all Reason 10 owners". There is no exclusion to new or future R10 buyers.GoldieK wrote:Just a heads up to anyone who doesn't currently own the FULL version of Reason 10. The free offer only applies to existing Reason 10 owners. Buying new or upgrading now or in the future will not gain you the free VST license for Europa. It's a wavetable synth, but also has a few other tricks up its sleeve (such as waveshaping more like z3ta or Wiggle and spectral filters bringing it closer to Razor or their own Parsec). *thanks aMUSEd4damind wrote:It's a wavetable synth? It's also extremely light on CPU, and offers a much easier (IMHO) GUI/UX that is easier to coax usable sounds out of, fast.
I'd consider it a great companion to Serum. Maybe a replacement for some users.
