Video support?

Hi,

I didn't see anything in the lit, so I'm assuming there is no support for video viewing within Tracktion. Am I wrong about that?

If not, is there any plan to have it implemented in the future?

Thanks

When T2 (Tracktion version 2) was first discussed, I was pretty sure that video support was one of the main topics.

I'm not sure now as that was a long time ago and the agenda may have changed.

There is a policy of not releasing info or release times by Machie, so we'll have to wait and see.

there is currently no video support. It's certainly been suggested many times and I'm sure it's a possibility that Jules has considered, but nobody knows yet. (well, maybe Jules)

I think somebody (maybe christianmusicmaker?) did a poll a while back about features that were most important to the people in the forum for T2. Video support came in dead last I believe. Midi improvements were at the top of the list. I wish I could find the thread. I would like to see some vid stuff in T. But it doesnt seem likely for T2.

I also don't think it seems likely, though you never know.

In fact, I don't want video support unless it's completely transparent when disabled, and doesn't take up extra system resources. It's something I will never use, so I don't want to pay for the privelege of having something I don't need or want.

I can certainly understand that others may want it, though, even if it's 'just' for home use.

I really, really want (or rather, require) video support in Tracktion 2. VideoPlayer by ImageLine is still in development so I'm stuck scoring a teaser by doing an export, opening VideoDub, applying the .wav to the .avi, previewing, closing VideoDub and then going back into Tracktion to tweak it a bit.

It's a total pain-in-the-ass. Jules, you gotta add Video Support for those of us working in the A-for-V world.

Now HERE'S a man with a definite sense of his needs!

I can see that at least a few people will have Video as their #1 priority, but objectively (well, MAYBE a bit subjectively!) speaking, Jules always intended Tracktion simply as an app for streamlining the process of recording audio. I'd rather see T2 come out with a stable and working set of new audio features, and put off video for a while. To rush into the list of features will only delay T2. And since the majority of us (at least, according to the poll) never use video, it's not a very justifiable time/cost expenditure.

Strictly in my (this time for -sure- subjective) opinion, the more extended functionality that gets added to Tracktion, the further away from its roots it's going to get. At some point in time that might be a good thing (or at least necessary), but for the time being, I really just want a straightforward pure audio workstation.

Hi AD80...yes I ran the poll (I may bump it up actually might get some more votes) :D video votes were not nearly as many as for midi features.

This is going way back, but I think Jules was at least considering the possibilty of having a separate product for video along side Tracktion.

I would not mind at least a video thumbnail track of sorts but it is probably unlikely for T2.

Jules background is in video and high end graphics so maybe video in Tracktion is not too far off but maybe more likely in a separate Raw material application sometime in the future...

Yeah I was wondering about that too. I thought his background was in video stuff so maybe it wouldnt be too hard for him. Could you imagine a Tracktionesque app for video ? That would be dope! Especially if it synced with Tracktion somehow. 8)

Well ,what about some simple video-editing along side?

..you could realy get those beats and clips in sync..

Could it be possible to write a simple app using Tracktion as a Rewire Host for synching to video frames in the other program ? (am I clear ?)
piaznest.com

piaz Revision from Granted Software is an excellent Rewire video app and very reasonably priced, alas it only functions as a Rewire host and so does Tracktion, and both developers have stated, no plan in the future for Rewire slave mode...

for Reason and Live it's great tho'

Please don't; There is enough bloatedware in the market today without the need to add another one. Keep it simple, small and stable and keep it for musician.

It's not like it would be a really hard feature to add. Add it once, forget about it. As long as it works it should not break and should be set for good. Plus I am sure that Jules would keep it akin to the current Audio Track setup where unless you add the track (in this case, Video) then it's not going to process it (much less think about it.)

I'm not lookin' for him to support Video editing tasks, just the ability to sync video playback with Tracktion. Hell, a JUCE plugin could do the trick. (/:wink: at Modular.)

I am a musician but I often do soundtracks for videos (to pay the bills). I would love to see video support. I realize that it may not be a high priority for other users but it would really simplify things for me and others who do film scoring.

I wouldn't mind a VST plugin or a Traction filter that would playback video in sync with the filmscore. I have Adobe Premier Pro but it just doesn't cut it for composing audio. I have yet to find a way to sync Premier with audio apps. In the past I have used the demo version of Vegas and synched it to my audio/sequence software with mtc and just used it as a video player but this is a bit memory hungry and kind of a lame work around to sync video just for playback. Sure, I could use vegas to compose but not if I want to use Reason via rewire and all the other cool features of Trackton (also, I just don't like Vegas). I would love to see a simple window that would just play back the video in sync with my music as I'm composing it. I agree that Traction doesn't need a full featured video editor but I think that a video player would be quite beneficial. Just my 2c.
